Album Review: The Rocket Summer- Sweet Shivers

Multi instrumentalist Bryce Avary comes back with his 7th album release as “The Rocket Summer”. It all spans over 13 tracks which at times can feel a little lengthy by the time it comes to the end. Things start off well on “Monday Light”, mainly because things are spiced up a little bit. The song builds with a riff that carries a real sense of tension until its release in the later half of the song.

Unfortunately the rest of the album is a bit of a mixed bag. It unfortunately sounds as though the rest of the album is on the same note and for that reason it feels longer than it should be. “Gardens” does admittedly try to do something a little different infused with it’s synthetic beats, but at the same time it’s almost too layered that things start to become a little lost. 5 4 3 2 1 Z feels like a rejected Panic At The Disco song but without the sense of fun that they always seem to have.

It isn’t until m & m at the end that the pace changes and we get a feeling for what it could have been, mainly because it feels like The Rocket Summer of old. No doubt that fans of The Rocket Summer will lap this up, it’s just a shame that there isn’t the variety on show that Avary is clearly capable of.
