Live Review: John Newman at Bournemouth’s Anvil

John Newman arrived at the tiny Anvil in Bournemouth last week as he continues his intimate tour around the UK in his iconic campervan.

Up and coming artist Etham supported on the night as he warmed up the sweaty yet vocal crowd. There was lots of anticipation before Newman walked down the cellar to what will be his stage for the next hour or so. The artist who has had number one hits with likes of Love Me Again certainly took to the show perfectly as he started with Come and Get It which was a perfect way to start an intimate show such as this.

Newman shouted strongly how venues such as The Anvil needs support as he talked about his mental health as well as number of other interesting stories. Not long after, the Yorkshire artist sang a Kings of Leon cover ‘Use Somebody’ which certainly lifted up the small crowd. Newman also mentioned his Brain tumour as a nurse at the time asked for a photo of him, which then he heard that his hit with Feel the Love with Rudimental. After performing that hit, Newman then played another great hit that he performed with Calvin Harris, Blame that certainly was more of a dance hit.

Feelings and the amazing Love Me Again followed before Newman finished on Stand By Me. Overall the night was just great and to see such an established artist such as John Newman perform to such a small crowd was simply refreshing!
