Interview: Black Income talk upcoming album ‘unSOUND’

It’s been 3 years since alternative rockers Black Income released their debut album ‘Noise Pollution’, which saw them tour Europe, playing festivals and opening for bands such as Exumer, Bullet and Tigers of Pan Tang and receiving over 1 million streams across all major platforms.

In 2017 Grammy Award Winning Bass player, and longtime friend Michael Gersdorff joined the band, and now, with their strongest lineup to date, and after months in the studio, they are back and due to release their latest album ‘unSOUND’  on August 23rd via Tube IT Records.

The new album, containing 9 hard hitting, dynamic tracks, was recorded at Medley Studios, Copenhagen with Soren Andersen and also Tube IT Studios in Denmark where it was Produced, Mixed and Mastered by vocalist Henrik Thrane. It continues where the first album left off,and according to the band, is a more organic sounding album than the last.

The inspiration for unSOUND, says vocalist Henrik “is everything around us. The band wanted to take on the unsafe and unsure structure of the world today, and it’s safe to say everybody has something to deal with every day; but with a world on fire and close to collapsing, things really get put into perspective, and a lot of decisions have to be made by the people of power”.

“It’s been a wild ride, we really wanted to leave a mark and we worked hard on developing our unique sound that everyone was so fond of on our debut album, we wanted to do a more organic and open sound on this one.”

UnSOUND is due for release August 23rd and will be available on limited edition yellow vinyl and all major platforms. For now check out Black Income’s previous album to get you in the mood!

We caught up with Black Income as they talked about their upcoming album and more!

So how pumped are you for your new album unSOUND?

Very we would say.. it’s been a while since we released new music, so we’re eager to send out our new album, and hitting the road again… to meet our fans and friends…having the greatest time rocking out, with some more cool bands!

Can you tell something about the album no one else knows?

Well, there are some quite different songs on the new album, and the next single “Loaded Gun” is actually telling a story from real life, about a good friend who lived his life too fast, and ended up killing himself. It was destined to happen, and no one could really do anything about it, since he was always seeking the edge of things, and doing crazy stuff… not being able to choose what’s was right or wrong.

What’s your favourite track on the album?

Hard one.. But if we have to choose between the 9 Tracks on unSOUND it would be ‘Loaded Gun’, with it’s more old school yet modern heavy riffs, and the more sore chorus ending, Bend Fuzzing the Fuck out of the end. A song like ‘Somethings Wrong’ has a more mellow kind of bendy vibe, it’s kinda cool to play live.

So why has it taken you three years to release another album?

Well we started out recording the first songs for the album in 2017 in Medley Studios, Copenhagen with Soren Andersen, but after a while we came to the conclusion that we wanted to work more in depth with thing’s, at the same time we decided to leave Mighty Music. So we went to Tube IT Studio to record the last tracks for the album, and with a more hands on recording, Henrik (Singer) did all the Sound engineering / recording, and mixed and mastered the new album together with the rest of the band, to find an even more unique sound for Black Income.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

There are a lot of cool bands these days, but we just saw The Foo Fighters, dont know whats wrong with Dave Grohl, but seems everything the man touches is a succes, so it could be cool to co write with him, and being a part of the process. Surely we could learn alot from it!

Will you be touring at all this year?

Well we have a couple of release gigs in Denmark, but we plan to tour in the start of 2020, and we’re working on some new stuff already, but we can’t really say anything about that just yet..

What’s the alternative scene like in Denmark at the moment?

Denmark is a small country, so it’s kinda hard being a band going more alternative than the mainstream. We do alright but it’s a limited amount of venues and festivals willing to have Alternative acts on the posters… but we live close to the UK/Germany and Norway, here it’s a whole different ball game, and the Alternative Scene is much bigger in those countries.
