Much The Same Release New Single ‘You Used To Have A Garden’

Much The Same, stalwarts of Chicago’s skate-punk and pop-punk scene, are returning to our stereos in 2019 with a new album ‘Everything Is Fine’.

Their latest single ‘You Used To Have A Garden’ showcases more melody-driven punk rock, demonstrating that each member of the band has a message to convey.

The new album, ‘Everything Is Fine’, comes out in time to celebrate the band’s 20th year anniversary and guitarist Dan O’Gorman’s recent victory over cancer. The release is a collaborative effort by Lockjaw Records (EU), Thousand Islands Records (CA) and Pee Records (AUS) and will be available from the 26th July.

‘’I grew up with a dad who was a good dad and a mom who did a lot to drag us down,” says bass player and composer Franky Tsoukalas. “Without getting into it, I watched our modest home turn into something that would be on a reality TV show for being filthy. It completely fell apart and so did our relationships to a degree.

“I haven’t been home in about two years because I can’t bear to look at the shit hole it’s become. When I was a kid, my dad had a garden, a small one behind our garage. He worked all the time — still does at 75 because he’s too broke not to. He didn’t have time for hobbies but he had that garden. The only gifts I ever knew to get him related to that… So when shit really went south for them, he didn’t have time or energy to keep it up. It sucks.

“So… my dad used to have a garden. It was the one thing that didn’t make him seem broken. Now, he doesn’t have that.’’

Much The Same spent most of the previous decade as a staple of the Chicago punk scene and making a name for themselves worldwide.

They keps 90’s skate-punk alive on two albums: ‘Quitters Never Win’ (2003, AF Records) and the more musically mature ‘Survive’ (2006, Nitro Records).

Much The Same’s focus has always been on writing fast and catchy songs that chronicle their struggles with friendships, faith and failure. The band broke up during their otherwise successful 2007 European tour. In 2015, with a fresh perspective, an ever-growing fan base and a desire to make music together again, the band picked up where they left off and began writing new material.
