Hailed as one of the most exciting new bands on the Brighton music scene; Something Leather possess dark, trippy alternative rock sounds. Their new single ‘Velvet’ is released on 28th June on We Can Do It Records. The track is a swirl of driving electric organ and gloomy guitar licks, alongside crashing cymbals, drums and even church bells. With moody yet mystical vocals, ‘Velvet’ is a sneering, cynical song about love and fantasy – chasing it in one moment before discarding it the next.
In such a short space of time Something Leather have secured support slots with a multitude of upcoming bands including Black Midi, Phobophobes, Madonnatron, Saint Agnes and JOHN. Their following has grown considerably since their first release, ‘Shotgun Persona’, and their current buzz is sure to give them some very exciting opportunities in the future. Their beloved 70’s Philips organ is fixed up with old parts of frontwoman Phillie’s grandmother’s first colour TV, giving them an authentic sound with real character, accompanied also by a bass organ adding to the dark, haunting sound of the trio. Eerie, untamed guitar noise from Greg on a Baritone and relentless rhythmical beats from Mike’s drumming ties everything up perfectly, with an explosive live show to match.
Taking inspiration from The Kills, Queens Of The Stone Age, Wolf Alice and The Pixies; Something Leather bring the urgency of Yak and the swagger of Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The band have shows in London (Moth Club) for We Can Do It on 29th June and Brighton (Hope & Ruin) for This Feeling on 6th July in support of the new single.
