Mind Control
The artistic ingenuity of our friend Jason Perillo continues here with his latest production called ‘Mind Caliber’ which finds us stepping into the world of movies as the music is quite thematic and gravitates towards the genre of filmmaking.
The single ‘Disaster Zone’ contains jangly and spangly guitars and are a throwback to the 80’s Indie scene.
The songs would also sit quite comfortably in an animated series ; they are quite philosophical in their tone and character. Maybe that wasn’t the intention, but the compatibility is significant. A prominent use of synthesisers heightens the pop aspect and will broaden the appeal.
‘It all went wrong though it hasn’t been addressed’ is a great line from ‘Don’t Put the Blame On Yourself’ and it encapsulates how time and again people cannot face situations where things go wrong.
Breezing along quite tunefully we have ‘Rally On The Surface’ and how we
‘got a feeling that you’re up to something’.
‘Clyde The Pincushion’ has a very Magic Roundabout feel, child-like but not unprofessional, tinkly and sprinkly and saturated in fairy dust….aaahhhh, sigh….
Let’s dip our toes into the world of the Western, as ‘Go Abroad’ transports you straight to a cowboy film set with its Bonanza style beat that gathers momentum as it gallops along quite briskly. Pass the Doritos, it’s The Mariachis!
‘The Fault Of High Desire’ is demonstrative of and evokes an all sweetness and light attribute as we near the end of this quite exquisite yet a little flippy and trippy collection of songs.
There is a priceless, enigmatic quality that runs the course of the eleven tracks and still swims around your system well into the small hours and beyond.
This album is highly imaginative and expansive in its outlook; Jason Perillo is quite possibly a one-off, this is one pigeon you cannot put in a hole.
