Interview: Finding Kate

Kate Pavli, otherwise known by her stage name “Finding Kate” is an Alternative/Rock solo artist based in London. Hailing all the way from Australia and Cyprus, this rocker proves she is a force to be reckoned with. Her powerful vocals, melodic songs and dark music separate her from the crowd.

After releasing her debut album “If I Fall” in 2016 to a wave of support and an array of shows – Finding Kate took a 2 and a half year break and has come back stronger than ever. Previous singles Forever and Get Over You from the debut album picked up attention for their emotional and catchy hooks. Now, she is aiming for her next release to rival the first, drawing a definitive line in the sand, and it certainly hits the mark.

I Feel Bad is a rollercoaster of emotions and its title is very true to form, with Kate conjuring her feelings about heartbreak, pity, sorrow and forgiveness in a powerful and modern production. The single is catchy, energetic & emotional and will surely be a hit with fans in the Alt/Rock/Pop world. Check out I Feel Bad below!

We caught up with Finding Kate before the release date as she talked about her latest single and more!

So how pumped are you for the release of  I Feel Bad?

I am super pumped. It’s been almost 3 years since I released “If I Fall” so it’s a very exciting time for me! It’s out now – go stream it, watch it, buy it. Woohoooooo!

Can you tell us something about the new single no one else knows?

“I Feel Bad” was written in quite a strange way. One day I sat down on my piano and the chorus just blasted out of me, same exact lyrics and melody as the final product. I couldn’t seem to come up with a verse, though. Then, whilst my producer and I were working on my tracks, he was playing keys and we were jamming, I came up with the verse. Funnily enough, the verse I came up with was from another unreleased song of mine, I had this verse for almost 2 years but could never find a chorus for it. It magically came out of me and we gelled the two different songs together.

So what’s next for you, will you be releasing an EP/Album?

I have a series of singles ready to be released over the next few months. Eventually, they will go on an album, but there’s no rush for an album yet. The singles will hopefully set the ground for what is to follow from me! I have a few which are more ‘commercial’ and a few more ‘alternative’ tracks, so I’m super excited.

How is this different to your work on If I Fall?

“I Feel Bad” is different mainly because the core came from me. My album “If I Fall” was written by my producer Chris Cara and I was only involved in some melodies/lyrics. Now I wrote the song, and Chris arranged, produced and mixed it. From the get-go, we knew this would be different from my previous releases but we wanted to keep a flow from the previous album. It’s still in the same realm with similar vibes, but “I Feel Bad” is a lot more modern and fiery.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

This is a tough one! Evanescence, Nothing But Thieves, Deftones, Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Lacey Sturm… I can’t choose!

Have you got any tour dates coming up this year?

I haven’t got any tour plans yet but I am hoping to play a few shows around the UK in the summer!

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

May 17th – single launch party at The Monarch, London

June 22nd – The 1865, Southampton

June 28th – Amplified festival semi-final at The Fiddler’s Elbow, London
July 6th – supporting Hands Off Gretel at The Prince Albert, Brighton

What do you all get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

I get up to a lot of different things in my spare time. When I am not writing music or singing, I work, like everyone else! I am a private vocal coach who teaches both adults and children how to sing. I also occasionally do cat-sitting (yes, that’s a thing), and sometimes I work at hospitality events as a waitress.

I am also always working behind the scenes on my website, social media, marketing, designs, promotion, pr, advertising etc. The music industry is tough and there’s a lot of work to be done all the time for bands and especially for solo artists such as myself.

When I finally get some time to relax, I love watching TV series and movies. I also started going to a lot more shows recently, I love supporting other artists and bands, whether they are big or small.

How proud are you to be recognised by the likes of Planet Rock?

I’m very excited to have Planet Rock’s support with my new release!  It’s a huge opportunity for me and I am incredibly grateful to Wyatt Wendels for playing “I Feel Bad” on his New Rock show. Here’s to more!
