Interview: The Vics

Indie rock quartet The Vics are released their first new material since their 2017 self-titled debut album last month.

Produced by industry veteran, Bryan Cole (Matt Westin, Viana) The Vics released two new tracks on March 8, 2019, “Fourth And Clay” and “Proud.”

Dancing on the line between old and new, with originality in hand, lies Pittsburgh-based quartet, The Vics. The Vics are a contagiously energetic avenue of nouveau indie rock, littered with classic blues overtones. The group met in late 2015, while attending California University of Pennsylvania. Shortly after, they merged into the Pittsburgh music scene through their self-released EP, “Sparrow” and self-titled album in 2017. Festival Performances have included the Millvale Music Festival, Deutschtown Music Festival, Millenium Music Conference & Festival, Launch Music Conference & Festival, Canadian Music Week, and Gilson Summer Snow Day.

The Vics are: Bobby Dugan, Guitar/Vocals; Ben Auer, Guitar; Dominic Bell, Bass; and Henri Seabright, Drums. Check out Proud below!

So how has your two latest singles Proud and Fourth and Clay gone down
with fans so far?

Fourth and Clay has been out for a little over a month now and has been
going over extremely well! Proud has been released on Bandcamp (all
platforms on 4/20) and we have been getting many positive remarks.
Overall fans seem to dig the change and growth of our group from both
songwriting and production standpoints!

So why wait two years for new songs?

For this release we wanted to take our time and really plan everything
out. We typically release our music as soon as it is recorded; but
wanted to try something a little different with this one. We had
recorded the new project in a different studio working with a new
producer and really make sure we had a game plan and knew how we wanted to approach the release!

Can you tell us something about the new singles no one else knows?

Our drummer had forgotten one of his crash cymbals the day we tracked
drums.  This is our first project without that cymbal heard!

So what’s next for you?

We have a couple more tunes coming out this year and we are looking to
set up a tour here shortly for the group!  As always we continue to plan
on writing an recording as well!

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Dan Auerbach of The Arcs/Black Keys would be a pretty interesting producer to work with.  He has worked with some artists that the guys
and I really like and always seems to turn a great product!

Have you got any tour dates coming up this year?

Nothing set up as of right now but soon!

What do you all get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

Besides playing and writing, recording is a huge interest and hobby of
ours.  A couple of the guys and I are also into fitness/working out and
such!
