Ohnova release new single ‘Banjo Mac’

Glasgow based OHNOVA have just launched their latest single ‘ Banjo Mac’ which is taken from their brand new EP called ‘I Can’t Sleep‘ that will be released on 24th May.

In true OHNOVA style, there is a lyrical depth reflecting the real experiences of the band, combined with top notch musicianship. OHNOVA feel that their music should not only be genuine, but also entertaining, providing a place that people can find an escape from the daily grind.

Banjo Mac is available to purchase and stream at all good outlets, check it out at:

Paul Morton (vocal/bass) explains the conception of Banjo Mac:
Banjo Mac is about a particularly bad time in my life. I was too busy doing everything I thought I had to, every decision I made was for other people, not for me. As a result I was in a really bad place for a year or two. The song itself is a reflection on that time and basically asking myself how could I have done all that? How could I have lived a lie for so long, pretending everything was fine when I was really struggling. For the music video, we thought that ‘Banjo Mac’ sounded like an outlaw of the old west. That’s why we thought it’d be fun to have the notion of ‘living a lie’ being a western fantasy played out in the mind of ‘Banjo Mac’, who was played amazingly by our guitarist Matthew. It was really cathartic for me personally to have a song about such a dark time for me be a funny cowboy romp. Music should be personal, it should reflect the life, thoughts and feelings of the writer. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t ‘find the happy’ in even the darkest personal subject matter. To connect, you need music about real life. But, at the same time, music should be an escape. Rock music in particular is about giving the listener either a reprieve from their daily life or giving them the strength to endure it. To me, there is no better music in the world for that. The way we want to do that in OHNOVA is by maybe acknowledging a serious or dark topic, but having a laugh about it anyway.
