After the massive success of his debut single ‘This is Never Ending’, Leeds-based Rock/Alternative Solo Artist and Multi instrumentalist Aiden Hatfield released his debut EP ‘Chapter One’ on March 15th.
The EP explores the themes of passion, conflict and loss. The thoughts and feelings behind every song are not only apparent in the lyrical content, but are also very evident in the music that supports them. A person’s mind can only deal with so much, it’s clear that songwriting is Aiden’s way of allowing himself to speak about what he’s dealing with. Check out the EP below!
Aiden openly suffers with Depression. He has dedicated the last four years to creating a successful brand https://inmusicwetrust.co.uk that donates 50% of profits to the ‘Mind’ charity. After interviews on the likes of the BBC and with how prevalent the subject has now become in the music industry, the brand is thriving and continues to help people every day. Aiden’s music touches on these subjects and he hopes that through his music he can continue to do so. Check out Chapter One below!
We managed to catch up with Aiden as he talked about the EP and more!
So how has the initial release of This Is Never Ending gone down with fans so far?
It’s gone way better than I could have ever expected. I’ve had nothing but positive feedback and a mass of support from so many amazing people. There’s no better feeling than putting something out in to the world, that you’re really proud of, and have other people enjoy it.
Does this single set the scene for the rest of the EP?
I like to think that it’s given people a good taste of what I’m about as a musician and a songwriter. I only ever write what comes naturally and I think the first single is a great reflection of that and will hopefully set people up to be excited to hear more.
Can you tell us something about EP Chapter One that no one else knows?
The photo for the front cover of my EP is of a typewriter that I bought 2nd hand. I took the typewriter to the park and took loads of pictures of it. I didn’t like any of them so I eventually took my desk to the end of my driveway. I put the typewriter on it and photographed it against a red brick wall, and that’s now the artwork.
What is your favourite single from the EP?
I can’t really answer that 😀 haha. I’m more looking forward to hearing what other people pick as their favourite. It’ll be interesting to hear their reasons why and find out whether what I wrote about is what they’ve heard when they listen to the tracks.
How pumped are you for the release of single The Horror in Me?
I’m actually really excited for people to see the video. I’m hoping people will think it looks good and sounds good, but I’m also hoping that it’ll make a few people laugh or smile. My music is very serious, but I don’t take myself that serious. That is definitely apparent in the ‘This Horror In Me’ video.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
I’ve always wanted to work with the team of people behind Meat Loaf’s first album ‘Bat Out Of Hell’. I don’t play that kind of music but there’s not a single thing I dislike about that album. I don’t consider myself or my music to be influenced by that album but I think it would be amazing to hear what we could come up with if I got to work with the team responsible for such an iconic album.
What do you all get up to in your spare time when not working on music?
I like to work 😀 haha. That’s pretty much all I do. If I’m not working on my music, I’m working on my charity based ‘In Music We Trust’ clothing brand (50% of profits from my brand get donated to a mental health charity). I’m a mental health advocate and a father so any spare time I get I tend to spend catching up on sleep.
Will you be touring the UK at all in 2019?
Yeah, my UK tour starts on the 22nd of March 2019 and runs until the end of April. I’ll have a band joining me on stage each night and I’ll also be playing acoustic versions of some brand new songs that nobody has heard. I can’t wait to get out there and meet other music lovers.
