Detriot royal Suzi Quatro returns with a brand new lip curling collection of leather kissed cuts of the Rock ‘N’ Roll and a whole lot more. Opener ‘No Soul/ No Control’ bubbles with Classic Rock stimulation while ‘Going Home’ goes for the laid back ZZ Top riff layered with blues, balls and Roadhouse timber. The albums first curveball arrives with the life-affirming ‘Strings’ which is topped off with some head-turning brass before ‘Love Is Not Fair’ meanders between Gold Radio genres before laconically settling on Kokomo beach. Rock order is restored with the chest-thumping ‘Macho Man’ a cut in huge contrast to the last call, harmonica and piano, barfly brushing ‘Easy Pickings’.
The freeform jam session feel of ‘Bass Line’ falls through the sidewalk cracks but ‘Do Not Do Me Wrong’ kicks the saloon doors open with a Suzi Q masterclass in seductive raspy vocals. ‘Heavy Duty’ has an infectious blue-collar Footloose feel before ‘I Can Teach You To Fly’ resonates with a “you’re everywhere but nowhere baby” backbone. A bourbon chugging ‘Going Down Blues’ rounds off this perfectly symmetrical retro heavy release. The original Queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll is back on her throne, happy days.
