Charlotte shares debut single ‘I Tell Lies’

Discovered by worldwide hit maker Toby Gad – writer of ‘All of Me’ (John Legend),  ‘If I Were A Boy’ (Beyonce), ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ (Fergie) and more. Today, new singer songwriter CHARLOTTE celebrates her 21st Birthday with the release of her debut single ‘I Tell Lies’ through The Orchard.

Taken from the ‘Nowhere To Hide’ EP – out on 3rd May, CHARLOTTE also announces her first London headline show at The Waiting Room on 26th March and in her hometown of Hull at The Tunnel Bar on 30th March. Tickets are available from noon today.

Having already written with, and for, artists including BRIT-nominated Mabel, JP Cooper, The Vamps, Aloe Blacc and Liv Dawson, CHARLOTTE’S journey began when she was 4 years old – singing and playing in her grandparents touring band around the UK & Europe; this was where she developed her love of soul music.

Inspired by all the soul greats; Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding,CHARLOTTE spent her early teens performing in pubs until her family moved to Singapore when she was 14 years old – isolated from her friends and the life she knew, she started to write and sing every day, finding therapy in her music to cope with these inner struggles as a teenager.

The soulful, beautiful and melancholic ‘Nowhere To Hide’ EP reveals CHARLOTTE’S unique voice and timeless sound rooted in great soul and pop music of past and present, whilst also highlighting CHARLOTTE’S innate songwriting ability to write a hook and catchy melody.  CHARLOTTE explores the painful journey from child to adult in brutal honesty with heart-rending beauty, addressing those difficult teenage years – battling everything from body confidence and unrequited love to independence and loneliness.

With early support from SBTV that filmed a live version of ‘Just Me’ and New Music Friday on Spotify today -the fully biographical EP gets released on 3rd May and is kickstarted by the release of lead track ‘I Tell Lies’ produced by The Orphanage – aka – Trevor Brown and Zaire Koalo (Kehlani, Aleissa Cara, Demi Lovato) – which received its first play on BBC Introducing last week.

CHARLOTTE explains, “There are four songs on the EP and I’m vulnerable in every one of them. That’s scary. I’m guilty of bottling up my emotions and when I was growing up I thought my feelings were unique to me – but I know now I was wrong – and lots of people are going through similar struggles. I wish I had known that at the time. Hopefully at least one person will hear I Tell Lies or Just Me and realise they’re not alone.”

Hailing from Hull, CHARLOTTE finally got her break last year, when she was discovered by Grammy-nominated global hit maker Toby Gad (Beyonce/John Legend/Fergie) – CHARLOTTE became the first artist and songwriter Toby Gad signed to his publishing company.  After one writing session in LA he offered to sign her immediately.
