Nocturnefest announces 5 more acts!

The danish 2-days doom event NOCTURNEFEST is ready with another batch of names for the 2019 edition, this time at legendary venue Loppen in Copenhagen on March 1st and 2nd. First edition took place in february 2018, with acts such as October Tide, Egonaut, A Sun Traverse and Abyssic.

One of the headliners, SATURNUS (DK), has already been announced – but now also SOLSTICE (UK), WOEBEGONE OBSCURED (DK), KRONIC (DK), HADRON (DK) and FEATHERS AND DOOM (N) has been added to the line-up.

SOLSTICE is one of UK’s classic epic doom metal bands. Formed in 1990 and released such landmarks as “Lamentations” (1994) and “New Dark Age” (1998), until calling it day in 2002 – and resurrecting in 2007. The monumental masterpiece “White Horse Hill” came out in 2018, and showed the world that SOLSTICE is still one of planet earths best doom metal bands.

In 2018, we had the pleasure of having WOEBEGONE OBSCURED performing at Nocturnefest. An intense and atmospheric live show! Since then, they have released one hell of an album – the mighty “The Forestormer”- one of last years most acclaimed funeral doom albums – so we couldn’t resist asking them to join our nocturnal feast once again!

KRONIC from Copenhagen is a rather new act, formed in 2014. The band is inspired by acts such as Anathema, Paradise Lost, Opeth and our headliner Saturnus, whom the band also have strong personal relations to. Their debut album will be released this spring, so we look forward to present their atmospheric and melancholic doom metal at Nocturnefest 2019.

Another quite new act is HADRON from Odense, Denmark. Formed in 2014, and playing a great variation of old school doom metal, a must for fans of Count Raven, Pentagram, Candlemass, Black Sabbath, etc. The band already have a reputation as a killer live band, and have performed at festivals such as Metal Magic, Noselake, etc.

We are also proud to present FEATHERS & DOOM – a brand new doom/death metal act from Bergen, Norway – but featuring members from wellknown Norwegian doomsters Syrach. Their debut album will be out later this year, and we can assure you that their raw, melodic and atmospheric doom/death will not disappoint you. And you will be one of the first to witness this great act live!

…and as earlier announced, Danish SATURNUS is also on the bill for this years Nocturnefest. A band that don’t need so much introduction – as they are widely known by doom metal fans, especially in their home country of Denmark, but also on the international doom metal scene, where they have toured in many countries, and have released such epic classic albums as “Paradise Belongs To You”, “Martyre”, “Veronika Decides To Die” and “Saturn In Ascension” – and a new album to be released this year. It is indeed a great pleasure to be welcoming them at Nocturnefest!

Furthermore members from Danish KONVENT will be DJ’ing one of the nights, while another yet unnamed DJ team will entertain on the other night.

Nocturnefest mainman Peter Mesnickow explains about this year:
“After a really great Nocturnefest in 2018, we have moved to a bigger venue – the legendary “Loppen”, where I have watched hundreds of concerts the last many, many years. I am excited to have SATURNUS on the bill, as I have a long relationship with them, and even signed them back in 1996, and released the first three albums. So after almost 25 years, it’s fantastic to have them headlining Nocturnefest 2019. As for SOLSTICE, I saw them live for the first time in 1994 together with Anathema here in Copenhagen. And again, 25 years later I am proud to have them performing at Nocturnefest. But it’s not all about nostalgia and old days, I look forward to see newer acts such as KRONIC, FEATHERS & DOOM and HADRON on Nocturnefest too. And the not-so-new, but not-so-old WOEBEGONE OBSCURED, which is one of the best funeral doom bands at the moment in my opinion”.
