When several members of Cinders met attending high school in Salt Lake City, they were unaware of the adventures that would unfold to complete their group: which continues to push the boundaries of Independent and Alternative music coming from Utah.
Cinders is Jordan Zabriskie, Montana Smith, Adrian De La Cruz, Chelsey Powell, Austin Harris, and Brad Bennett. Formed in 2015, they are attaining success across the United States, as well as continuously growing success internationally.
Cinders achievements can be correlated to their passion for their music, hard work, and a desire to create a bond between their fans and themselves like no other. With millions of streams, the success of their career is only beginning. Check out latest album Looking Forward To Looking Back below!
We caught up with the band as they talked about their latest album and more!
So how has your latest album gone so far with fans then?
Our new album Looking Forward to Looking Back comes out everywhere now! So far the response has been awesome. Of course we are nervous for the release as it is different from our first record, which our fans loved. We are confident though that the direction we have taken with this new record will be more personal and meaningful to them, as well as more energetic and fun.
Tell us something about the release no one knows?
One week before the album comes out we will be releasing a new track off of the record! There will be a music video following it as well where we will see Jordan deliver an Oscar worthy performance. If not Oscar worthy at least Razzy worthy.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
That is a tough one because there are so many artists that we love and look up to. A band that we feel we would connect with musically would be Grouplove. They have high energy and great pop melodies. They would be a ton of fun to work with!
How has your latest single been received?
100 Foxes came out just a couple months ago and it has been incredible to see how our fans have responded. We were also lucky enough to have the song reviewed by Bob Boilen of NPR music. He described the track as “a song within a song, within a song.. and I love that”. It is definitely a new sound for Cinders and one that has really done well not only critically but also with our fans.
Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?
Overcoming doubt and a lack of self worth. The words acknowledge that we all go through struggles and hard times. Most importantly, it focuses on recognizing that everyone else makes mistakes too. We have to be willing to look past the shortcomings of those around us, just like we would want them to look past ours.
What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?
With the release of our new record Looking Forward to Looking Back, we will touring the Western United States all of October! A lot of these dates are album release shows. These will be the first place that you are able to purchase vinyl, CD’s and exclusive tour shirts. We can’t wait to play all of these new songs for everyone. Of course we will still be playing some old fan favorites too. You can check out our website for more details on tour dates in a city near you.
What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?
The Audio Lab in Boise, ID! It is an intimate venue that only holds about 70. The sound and space is incredible though. It is really about a show more than just a social gathering. We feel honored that we will soon be listed there with some of the legends who have played The Audio Lab in the past.
What else can we expect from you in 2018?
Looking Forward to Looking Back comes out September 29th! Make sure to follow on Spotify on Apple Music so that you can hear it first. The rest of this year we will be touring and preparing for more tours in 2019!
