Having spent almost a decade in the wilderness, Americana Singer/Songwriter Alf Hale had a spectacular return to the music scene with his EP Misanthrope which chronicled his remarkable journey from the depths of alcoholism to his eventual redemption.
Hoping to build on the huge success of the April 2017 release comes the highly anticipated debut album City on a Hill from the English-infused Americana Singer/Songwriter, released July 6th
Alf will be performing a range of shows throughout the summer to launch the album with fiddle player Jade Morris in tow. Check out City on a Hill below!
We caught up with Alf Hale as he talked about his latest album and more!
So how has the initial response been for City on a Hill?
Response to the album thus far has been very positive, I’m really pleased.
What’s your favourite track from the album?
My favourite song on the album is I know she’s gonna leave me, I love the simplicity of the song.
Can you tell us something about the release no one else knows?
The last song was written and added in mins, thought it would be fun to add a pirate sounding track to the album. Was convinced it was a joke and wouldn’t work but I like the energy of the track so decided to add it.
Is this any different to Misanthorpe?
It’s different to Misanthrope because the challenge was to write and record using only two instruments. The new album will go back to using a full band, very excited.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
If I could work with anyone it would be Townes Van Zandt or Johny Cash but sadly both passed.
What gigs are you looking forward to playing this year the most?
Looking forward to the Bath folk festival!! Never played or been asked to play one. It’s very unusual for me to play without a full band.
What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?
When I’m not writing or playing I enjoy spending time with my two sons.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
First gig ever The Damned.
