Award-winning Canadian musician Ed Roman has always created music videos that were both visually entertaining and, like his personality, a bit quirky and off-center. From the red-pinstriped-clad Godfather of Love character in I Am Love to the bumblebee-shaded snow traveler in I Found God, Ed’s self-directed visual depictions of his songs have left long-lasting impressions, earning accolades and racked up over 75,000 views.
Now, Ed Roman is unleashing his most ambitious visual undertaking to date. The artist recently released the animated opus, Red Omen which made it’s world online premiere during the New York Lift-Off Festival Online 2018.
Ed also plans to use the Red Omen video to raise funds for Dyslexia awareness, a cause very near and dear to his heart. Check out Red Omen below!
We caught up with Ed as he talked about his latest single and more!
So how has the release of Red Omen gone down with fans so far?
The rumour that I’ve received… and you can take it with however many grains of salt you wish is nothing but sheer pleasure, fun, excitement, stellar animation, a wonderful musical journey and lyrics.. Lyrics that will make ya laugh, recollect and fizz with laughter..
its mad man… 😉
Can you tell us something about the release no one else knows?
Red Omen will be part of a national fundraising campaign to raise money for tutoring programs for children across North America. Positive Dyslexia and The Davis Dyslexia society in the United States are helping cross promote the video in order to bring more awareness to this educational situation..
What’s your favourite track from the release?
It’s the anagram of my own name of course… Red Omen.. how more apropos for a dyslexic such as “one of us” or me.. to brandish words in such a colourful fashion for the purpose of helping others understand the gift of dyslexia..
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
I really can’t answer that question right now. There’s been far too much political strife and turmoil in band situations that I prefer to work by myself now.
Will you be releasing new music this year?
Yes I am working on a new project called “a recipe for perpetual spring” It will be a series of singles that I release with supporting videos.
What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?
I’m an avid gardener. Nothing is more important to me than being able to grow my own food.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Gordon Lightfoot.

What’s the alternative music scene like in Ontario?
Many musicians in this country are struggling as a lack of support and apathy that we have in our Canadian populous. This is why many of us leave our country and find our paths in other countries. As far as I’m concerned there is no scene here other than in Montreal where they have an good forum for musicians..
