Montreal electronic pop artist Petra Glynt recently announced her explosively ambitious and sonically sprawling sophomore album, My Flag Is A Burning Rag Of Love. The follow-up to her acclaimed 2017 debut LP, This Trip. My Flag Is A Burning Rag Of Love is now set for release on September 7th from Toronto’s Pleasence Records.
To announce the album, Petra Glynt has released her powerful first single, New Growth, which she describes as a feminist anthem of empowerment in the wake of #MeToo. Check it out below!
We managed to catch up with Petra as she talked about her upcoming release and more!
So how pumped are you for the release of My Flag is a Burning Rag of Love?
Lol, yeah I’m pretty psyched to release her in the wild.
Can you tell us something about the upcoming release that no one else knows?
These songs are all experiments.
What is your favourite track from the album?
Mmm either “Surveillance” or “No Consequences.”
How have Pleasence Records helped you become the artist you are today?
Pleasence and I have been part of the same community for at least 10 years, but this is the first time we’re working together in an official capacity, so they’re really helping me out at a crucial time in my career where I wanna be releasing as much music as possible.
How has the release of “New Growth” gone down so far with fans?
I honestly have no clue. I’ve been in the studio being a total antisocial nerd.
If you could work with any band or artist on a new band, who would it be and why?
I would start a trio with New Chance, a drummer, and myself maybe and we could make live weird techno/dance music or something… this thought occurred to me the other day when we were talking about collaboration. I don’t think Im in a place to start a band, but I used to play in them and there’s a certain spirit that I miss.
How pumped are you for your shows in August, is there any show you’re looking forward to most?
Pretty pumped I’d say though I’ve been immersing myself in writing right now… I’ve never been to Manitoba before and I’ll be camping out there for a couple days for Rainbow Trout Festival and it’s been forever since I went to Electric Eclectics. I also went to see the Baby Cages Show at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in their cool garage. I’ll be playing there on the 2nd.
What was the first ever gig you went to?
Damn, must have been a shitty all ages ska show, but actually I think it was a house show in grade 9, and the band was called Mcfly. Woah, distant memory.
