Album Review: Eat Defeat – I Think We’ll Be Okay

Yorkshire Punks Eat Defeat release their latest album the American influenced ‘I Think We’ll Be Ok.’ Opening track is the fast-paced relationship breaking down ditty ‘A Little Less Than Ok’. The stop-start Punk-Pop staple is joined by the used to death “woohoo” backing chorus. The blink and miss it brilliance comes to the fore on ‘Duvet Day’ while ‘Smile’ is spat out between gritted teeth and comes with a bona fide wild at heart chop chop riff. Both ‘Nothing’s Wrong’ and ‘Can’t Say I’ll Miss You’ delve further into the boy meets girls, girl breaks boy heart obvious pocket, however, the latter has some superlative hooks. ‘Shortcut’ thrashes about like a cat in the water and would work a treat on any Vans tour/festival stage. A country riff and some dirt road vocals push ‘Scorched Earth’ out of the shade while ‘Self Help (For The Helplessly Selfless)’ has a more alkaline British texture. Final track ‘Not Today, Old Friend’ lays self-help emotions bare on the kitchen table for all to see, prod and ponder. Eat Defeat have delivered an album of melodic, catchy and stoic Punk-Pop-Rock. A solid sounding band well and truly on the rise.
