Interview: Between the Lines talk upcoming EP

UK Pop-punkers Between the Lines recently announced themselves with the release of their debut mini-EP, To The Wind, out on Friday 6th July through all platforms. The Brit newcomers have also dropped a track entitled Anywhere But Here.

By tugging from the melodic vigour of contemporary custodians of punk-pop Neck Deep and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, through to US heavyweights Four Year Strong, Between the Lines have engineered a sound that merges ultra-hooky choruses with woven guitar work and pounding beats that will draw in and ignite the listener.

Formed in 2017 and coming at you from Bedford, the quintet soon established a strong bond and swiftly began to play shows throughout their local vicinity. Along the way, the tunesmiths have built a solid following and have played dates with Better Than Never, The Young & Restless, Seasons, and Reckless Intentions. Check out Anywhere But Here below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their upcoming EP and more!

So how pumped are you for To The Wind?

We are pretty hyped for To The Wind, we’ve been in this weird transitional phase since January and we haven’t had music readily available on streaming platforms since November 2017, so it’s been a bit of a waiting game for these tracks to finally be available for people to check out!

What is your favourite track from the EP?

The EP is only two tracks so it’s hard to pick a favourite, but as a band we think “To The Wind” as a track itself is pretty decent – the vocals are bang on and mix perfectly with the lead guitar which makes for a killer sounding track that sounds huge when you play it through some speakers..

Can you tell something about the release no one else knows?

There aren’t too many secrets about the release, but what we can say is that this release is a prelude to a full length EP that will be coming later this year… Not exactly a wild secret, but this is probably the first time we’ve publicly said that…

How has the single Anywhere But Here gone down with fans so far?

The reactions been pretty good towards the song, it’s cool to see people coming along to shows and singing along to the track so it must stick in people’s memories which is always a good sign right?

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

I’ve lost count of how many time we’ve tried to harass Chunk! No Captain Chunk! into working with us or letting us support them on shows… So, again, we’d love to work with Chunk! No Captain Chunk! – those guys are the reason we’re the band we are today and have been a huge influence in our music and general style since we began.

How did your recent Battle of the Bands show go in St Albans?

We won our semi final round, so we’re into the final on August 14th – We are proud of the performance we gave, a lot of Battle Of The Bands tend to be based on fan vote over anything else, but on the night we didn’t actually have the biggest group of fans there so we are proud to say we won our heat on merit.

Will you be touring at all this year?

There are currently talks of a tour, but we’re looking at our priorities for now – we’ll definitely be hitting the road but for the most part it’ll be little weekenders here and there rather than tours in the conventional sense.

What’s the alternative scene like in Bedford at the moment?

It’s growing to be honest… The last few years have seen a rise in the number of local bands and promoters trying new things and that’s awesome to see – Whilst they aren’t from Bedford itself the promoters Luton Live/s are really doing their bit to breathe some fresh life into the alternative & local scene in Bedfordshire, you only need to look at the Castlefest 2018 line up to see how much they are doing to raise the alternative scene to Bedfordshire.

What got you into music in the first place?

Individually it’s a mix but as a band, listening to Four Year Strong, Chunk! No Captain Chunk!, Trash Boat, WSTR, Neck Deep etc… gave us that little kick we needed to dust off the instruments and head into a rehearsal space and see what we could do.
