Album Review: Evil Blizzard – The Worst Show on Earth

Evil Blizzard pushes the boundaries once more on their third full-length release, the motorway pile-up of sound ‘The Worst Show On Earth’. Opener ‘Hello’ sits uncomfortably between genres, prodding Lydon’s PIL between the ribs with a Sleaford Mods stick. Next up is the latest single ‘Fast Forward Rewind’ which resonates with a repetitive trance inducing chorus and some organ shaking four bass action. ‘The Misery’ has a more horror under the bed, mattress wetting, uncomfortable eclectic edge. Next up is the factory thud of ‘Those We Left Behind’ before an atmospheric ‘Like A God’ spikes Joy Division’s drink with a krautrock sedative. A slightly more conventional Rock spine is embraced on the pounding ‘Tell Me’ before the ten minute epic ‘Pull God From The Sky’ restores musical disorder. Final and title track ‘The Worst Show On Earth’ has distorted German spoken word entree before a wind tunnel of white noise catapults the listener into a parallel aural Rammstein ruling universe. This is an album for those seeking an alternative to the run of the mill, well anything. It’s an inquisitive record of multi-layered dark styles, texture and mind-bending tastes. Not for the faint-hearted or blinkered but a must for the musically belligerent. Hostile.
