Interview: Fishtank

British rock band, Fishtank, is on the map with their debut album Why am I Swimming Around Like This, establishing themselves as a New Wave, Synth-Pop, Alternative Rock band. It features a variety of artists and encompases a modern sound while carrying the unique voice of Talitha Giusti and their relatable story. With a style related to the 80’s band Erasure, a soft but easily recognisable synth performance paves the way for lead vocalist Talitha to erupt with an eccentric flair. Check out Feels So Good below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest release and more!

So how has the release of Feels So Good gone down with fans?

They seem to have loved it as far as we can tell but all the songs on the album are very different so would really encourage them to check out the whole thing.

Can you tell us something about the release no one else knows?

I’m a huge Rush fan and was trying to invoke the spirit of their music in the song Keep Looking, which I wrote for a British prog rock band. Then Tali heard it and we nicked it for Fishtank ?

Will you be releasing an EP/Album this year and can you tell us anything about it?

We are hoping to release an EP in September and are currently working on it in Bank Cottage Studios with George Shilling, a renowned UK producer who’s worked with Frank Turner, Killing Joke, Porcupine Tree and many more.

Will it be any different to Why Am I Swimming Around Like This?

I think the subject matter is a little darker and more focused whilst the music is more electro. Still lots of guitars though…

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Rush for me every time but I fear I’ve missed the boat! I though they felt to be getting back into the form they had in the late 70s/early 80s and would have loved to contribute to that.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

If we have any spare time we invariably go to the pub!

Are you planning on a tour at all this year to coincide with the release?

I think we’ll be working in the studio most of the year, the first EP is really just a preliminary for the next album

What was the first ever gig you went to?

The Hollies at the Birmingham Night Out in about 1978. It was my mum’s birthday present and I was dragged kicking and screaming. They were brilliant and their guitarist was on another level.

What’s the alternative music scene like in London at the moment?

Plenty of bands trying some new ideas but lack of venues is killing a scene before it starts. All a bit depressing really.
