We managed to catch up with Smashby as he talks about this latest release and more!

How has the initial response been of Wild One been so far?

The response has been crazy, so much positivity and love! I’ve had a lot of messages from my screwballs saying how much the video for Wild One is helping them to hold on and be themselves. And the reaction to the whole EP has just blown my mind, everyone has a different favourite track which must mean I did good if people can’t pick a solid favourite right?

Can you tell something about the EP no one else knows?

I’m not sure if anyone picked up on this but Flames on the Runway, I actually spoke some french. I got my friend to help me out with it he lived in France for like most of his life so he was a better source than google translate.

What’s your favourite track from the release?

It’s so hard to pick a favourite cause I’m genuinely so proud of them all, Wild One is my favourite lyrically but sonically I really like the vibe of Under The Sheets. But they’re all songs that I would jam to if Britney put them on an album so it’s really hard to pick a favourite.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Years & Years would be a fun band to work with. I love their music and what they stand for.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

I love just doing normal things, seeing my friends and just being spontaneous. I love Zumba too, getting to shake my ass and work a sweat.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

I think it was Miley Cyrus back in 2009 but I had to leave cause I wasn’t prepared for how loud it was gonna be, how embarrassing. But I redeemed myself when I saw her on the Bangerz tour. I don’t know why I couldn’t handle it but by the time I was 13 it didn’t bother me anymore.

What got you into music in the first place?

I think it was watching Britney Spears growing up, I was just obsessed and I wanted to be her so bad. But I always thought I’d never be good enough then Lady GaGa came on the scene and I was like “I don’t feel like so weird anymore, I can do this” she gave me that confidence.

Will you be touring at all this year?

I’m on a pride tour right now and through to September. I’m having the best time, I can’t wait to see all my screwballs and sing the new tracks with them.
