Interview: Kint talk upcoming album

Stoned.Immaculate is the debut LP from Italian noise rock band Kint. The album – released on 1st June via Small Pond, in conjunction with Italian taste maker math/rock imprint To Lose La Track – is preceded by two upfront tracks, which will launch online in the run-up to release, including new single Blonde, with a follow-up single and video over the summer. Kint formed in 2017 from the ashes of one of the most influential bands in the Italian noise punk scene, The Death Of Anna Karina, who gained significant renown and a fanbase both at home and around the world. The band members (guitarist/vocalist Raffaele Marchetti, bassist Andrea Ghiacci, and drummer Adriano Pratissoli) have also played in outfits including RedlineSeason, Mourne and Three Lakes. As Kint, the trio draw on past experiences, and a variety of musical styles, to conjure up a mature sound that unflinchingly embraces disenchantment and darkness. Check out Blonde from the band below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their upcoming album and more!

So how pumped are you for the release of Stoned.Immaculate?

Raf: We all come from troubled times and we try to include everything we felt in this record. So yeah, we are really excited about this album release. We are a “new” band and it’s a real satisfaction to start in this way, with three Italian labels and one in England.

Andre: I’m very excited! I’m happy about the final result of the album but also the creative path has been surprising and stimulating. It starts as a couple of beers with some old friends, but in few days we found ourselves with all the album tracks. That’s crazy…

Can you tell us something about the release no one else knows?

Raf: The fact is that nobody knows nothing about it, (lol). We record the album in November 2016 after 9 month together in 3 days, one day each instrument, with super simple mobile recording studio. I struggled a lot before recording the voices this January and because of that the lyrics are dark and introspective, and other stuff that I will tell you only after many beers.

Andre: 180g LP with reverse printed cover in silver, what else?!

What’s your favourite track from the album?

Raf: It depends, i have “the week favourite”. I’ve listen to it too many times and I forgot in what “week favourite” I’m now, sorry.

Andre: GOLD, but I’m more a “live version” fan.

Adri: Also for me is GOLD in the live version, cause it sounds very energetic and heavy…

How has the release of Blonde gone down with fans so far?

Raf: I don’t really know, I’m living in mars right now. I can’t see or feel anything that RED.

Andre: Many people ask me about my bass sound I never answered, for now I will keep it for me. Ahahah.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Raf: Now at the moment I’m impressed by Idles and Jaye Jayle last release, I definitely love them and it will be an honour to play or work with them in any way. But as a sound engineer if you write “work” i think about a producer or a particular engineer, and now I’m thinking about Kurt Ballou, cause I’m a big Converge fan and I personally love his way of working. Now that we just start writing new material we want to find a way more dark, more blues and more powerful sound. It will be a long way.

Andre: For me Buildings, I really love their noisy-rock stuff.

Adri: If i could work with someone I will choose Valerian Swing, cause they are such a great musicians and also a very cool guys.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing this month?

Raf: At the end of the month we are gonna play with Moaning. We have heard about them in a positive way. But i’m an old guy, every place is the most looking forward, but yeah Mattatoio is a real great venue.

Andre: Mattatoio Culture Club in Carpi is a place that I personally love very much. We are gonna play with Moaning in a place where you can play loud as you want, it’s gonna be fun.

How have Small Pond Records helped you become the band you are today?

Raf: This a tricky question. I consider all the guys in small pond as good friends and they have a real main actor role in my memories. As a sound engineer for Valerian Swing I tour a lot around Europe and England and I have the pleasure to spend time at Small Pond HQ or festivals or company. I love the way they do things.

Andre: Small Pond show me something that I forgot in time. The guys from the crew infected me with their enthusiasm and their passion for teamwork and music.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

Raf: As a guitar teacher, sound engineer and musician in my spare time when I’m not working on music I just fall asleep. Lol. When I have enough time I go running in the country where there no car just desert flat and I listen to some loud and heavy music.

Andre: I’m a gardener, I like working with plants and giving new life at green corners in a state of neglect, creating design objects and also cooking and drinking wine with friends.

Adri: I work in factory as a worker but I’m a father so I spend all the time I have with my two children.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Raf: My first real live show was incredible for me. It was a big Italian festival in Imola called Heineken Jamming Festival, that year i went to see Muse, Rage Against the Machine, Guano Apes, Primal Scream. It will be a unrepeatable mix of fear and emotions, I was 14.

Andre: Ahahah, good question! The first concert that I ever seen was Litfiba (well known Italian rock band) during their “El Diablo” tour in 1991…. oh jesus christ, I was 14 years old and it was the first time that I make pogo dance…craaazy!

Adri: I don’t remember very well… but I think that may have be Slayer with ‘Reign in Blood’ tour or Metallica with Master of Puppets. It was in 1986 when Cliff Burton died and I was 15 years old. Oooh blessed youth!
