Three piece Gold Phoenix latest release is the can kicking ‘There’s No Illusion Here’ E.P. First cut ‘Hard To Beat’ has a Brit-Rock meets Fuzz sensibility which resonates with a purposeful pounding. The distinctive vocal sound marries seamlessly with the light razor guitar touch. Second track ‘Black Bullet’ has a darker, more aggressive Doom Rock edge and texture while ‘Oh So Hard’ motors along with rolling Stoner style and laid-back convertible cruise control. A quintessential Coxon riff opens up the hip thrusting, sweat-inducing ‘Hot ‘N’ Cold’ it’s down and dirty Rock ‘N’ Roll. Finally ‘Every Step Of The Way’ sways back and forth with an almost classic 70’s style and panache. To sum this release up, Gold Phoenix have just made Rock ‘N’ Roll interesting, again.
