Interview: The Sourheads talk latest release

The Sourheads take influence from the great classic rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s and combine it with the more alternative bands of modern day. The band feel that it is important to not follow any specific scene yet they fit into multiple genres and play with different styles of bands. In 2016 they wrote their first album Care Plan For The Soul mastered by famed produce Pete Maher ( The Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, U2) the band signed with German Label Kozmik Artifactz in the spring of 2017 and released their album Care Plan for the Soul.

The secret to the style of music The Sourheads are is that each member is influenced by different styles of music. There are elements of british bands such as Kasabian and Inspiral Carpets, classic bands such as Iggy and the Stooges, The Doors, and heavier bands such as Kyuss, Queens of the stone age, and Clutch. This along with an explosive live show makes The Sourheads a band not to be missed who have gained a loyal following throughout the UK and Europe. Check out Care Plan for the Soul below!

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

We have gained positive responses from almost everybody. Our fans have really taken to the limited edition blue and splatter vinyls.
How are younger fans are really supporting us digitally with Spotify and other social media such as YouTube. At this moment in time we are really happy with how things are going.

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Our roadie and driver Andy sings backing vocals on the song Mad Dog. The album cover photo was actually taken by Jake’s wife on the beach at Scarborough. We didn’t intend to have it as the cover but the picture fit so perfectly with the title of care plan for the soul that we realised it was the best representation we could have.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Jake would love to work with Jim Morrison, I would love to be a fly on the wall and listen to that conversation. I would like to work with Alice Cooper personally but working with anybody who is established would be good because they would bring their wealth of knowledge to the table. Sometimes a different thought process can be very creative.

How has your latest single been received?

We haven’t released one initial single we have done videos though for a few. We recently did a lyric video for one of our popular live songs called Don’t get caught (I am the Lotus) the song isa livefavourite and always gets the best sing along by the crowd.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

The Lotus is the rock star, beautiful, gracious but dangerous. The rockstar could give into temptation and therefore his life or her life is one that could turn chaotic at any point. Usual pitfalls of rock and roll, groupies, drink drugs etc. In real life though we are all big softies Jake and me are happily married to our wives not to each other and we I’ll go to sleep early. Our rider usually consists of a few beers and a pizza.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

We are currently in the middle of a 14 date UK tour where we are playing with a lot of our peers and friends like Red Spektor. There is a really healthy UK rock music scene at the moment and the labels are signing us all up. It seems that after a few years of not knowing the music scene has shifted back to classic rock and good old fashioned guitar music. The importance has moved away from image slightly and is more about good music again.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

There are a few venues that we really love that we play regularly on our UK dates. The Unicorn in Camden Town is a good one, Percy’s cafe Bar in Whitchurch is really good, Black Mass in Wakefield, RS bar in Sheffield. The Doll’s House in Abertillery Wales. All cool venues run by really cool music fans. Keep it true

What else can we expect from you in 2018?

We finish our dates around December and in the meantime we will continue to write our next album. We will spend the rest of the year doing interviews and promoting our debut album ‘Care Plan for the Soul’ which is out now on Oak Island records. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us.
