Progressive metal act, Greyhaven, recently released their highly anticipated new full length Empty Black via Graphic Nature / Equal Vision Records. Empty Black is an explosive collection of heavy rock anthems that incorporate a myriad of influences. The album possesses an impactful, driving energy that is infectious – complete with underlying ethereal tones that set the stage for the band’s abrasive compositions. Empty Black undoubtedly positions Greyhaven as torchbearers in the resurgence of progressive metal. You can stream it now on YouTube and it is also available on Spotify.
The three singles released (Echo and Dust Pt. 1, Blemish + Ten Dogs — Red Heaven) from Empty Black have already been championed from tastemakers ranging from Metal Injection to Revolver Magazine to Alternative Press and BBC Radio One. The band has been equally praised for their live performance as they are in the midst of a full North American run supporting Norma Jean on the Redeemer tour alongside Gideon and Toothgrinder.
On Empty Black they’ve created an album that is pristinely violent while challenging the norms associated with heavy rock music. The Will Putney (Every Time I Die, Body Count, Knocked Loose, Amity Affliction) produced record is out now on Graphic Nature / Equal Vision Records. Check out Empty Black below!
We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their latest release and more!
How has the release of Empty Black gone down so far with fans?
It’s been going fantastic, everyone’s been very responsive with the direction we’re trying to take our sound as well as getting a warm welcome from a lot of new fans.
What is your favourite track from the album?
I think we all have a sweet spot for Kappa (River Child) that one is just a chaotic blast for us to play.
Tell us something about the release no one else knows?
This whole album was fueled by late nights with Evan Williams, box wine, Tony Hawk, Saw, and a pit bull named Stampy.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
System of a Down. Those boys know how to get weird.
How have the guys at Graphic Nature / Equal Vision Records helped you become the band you are today?
All of those guys have been so wonderful to us and really just allowed us to be who and what we want to be without restrictions.
What’s the alternative scene like in Louisville at the moment?
Louisville has such a warm welcoming and open minded group of people in it. There’s always so many cool new groups sprouting up while also having the bands that have been killing it for years, and kids just show so much support to all of them.
What do you get up to in your spare time when not making music?
A lot of NFL Blitz. And brewing the occasional beer when I have the time.
What’s it like being supported by the likes of BBC Radio One?
It’s been absolutely insane to have support from anyone outside the country, even more so to have them show interest.
How was you recent tour with Norma Jean, Gideon & Toothgrinder?
That tour was just about everything we could have asked for. All of those guys were so phenomenal to us and the crowd reactions we’re insane, this was a perfect first run to get to bring our new record out on.
