Album Review: Food Court – Good Luck

Sydney’s tin can kickers FOOD COURT release their debut full-length Fuzz infused album ‘Good Luck’ on Dine Alone Records. Opener ‘Not My Way’ speeds through late night neon in a confused state of nirvana. The superb ‘Alright Alone’ continues the urgent guitar, drum and bass all complemented by languid, piercing vocals that land somewhere between anger and lethargy.

‘Happy Birthday’ spins with a Grunge kissed Stones Roses psychedelic sound that leaves every genre door open for exploration. The spat out shouty ‘Slightest, Brightest’ has a summery Punk tanned exterior and wheezing Indie organs. ‘I’ve Been Wrong’ shuffles out of a daybreak shop doorway before catching the milk train home, with scuffed shoes, crumpled shirt and tobacco burnt jeans all defiantly displayed to the well rested, well dressed and well stressed morning commuters. The midday rising ‘Wrecked’ craves a Red Bull injection before a morose ‘Left And Right’ lazily hits the shoegazing snooze button. A combination of Supergrass and Fuzz is evident on the quickfire ‘Go From Here’ while ‘Mind Rhythm’ beats like a libertine scorned before final track ‘For The Morning’ draws the basement blinds to let in a shimmer of light. Food Court have released a top floor debut.
