Interview: IDestroy talk latest EP

Bristol grrrl rockers IDestroy recently revealed the video for their new single Lemons, taken from their EP Pure Joy Of Life.

Featuring the band playing in a variety of lemon-themed surroundings, the video is a tongue-in-cheek accompaniment to the attitude-drenched track. While a punchy bassline descends into a chaotic chorus with driving guitars and feisty vocals, the video sees playful lemonade-themed antics involving spraying lemonade and eating lemons, while the band play in front of vibrant lemon-coloured backgrounds.

Lemons is the first track  taken from their EP, Pure Joy Of Life (released 9th March), the follow up to their debut EP Vanity Loves Me. Released last year to rave reviews, it earned them support from the likes of Kerrang!, Planet Rock and BBC Introducing.

Pure Joy Of Life is again an onslaught of infectious punk rock. A riotous combination of gritty basslines and poppy vocal harmonies, the EP channels the spirit of punk swagger into an irresistible party-punk sound.

Having built up a loyal fan base playing to packed out venues in their hometown of Bristol, the band have been making a name for themselves on the live circuit touring relentlessly across the UK.

With no sign of slowing up, the band have just finished supporting The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing on their UK tour this month and have now headed out to play a run of headline shows in Europe.

Check out Lemons below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their latest EP and more!

So how has the release of Lemons gone down so far with fans?

Since releasing the music video we keep getting messages from fans saying they’re going to bring bottles of lemonade to our shows to throw over us… it’s not actually happened yet but if this becomes a thing, venues are going to hate us!

Tell us something about the track no one else knows?

The percussion we used in the verses was a wood block in the shape of a frog.

How has the release of your EP Pure Joy of Life gone down so far also?

We were overwhelmed with all the pre orders that came in initially and actually sold out of vinyl within the first week!

We’ve had some fantastic reviews come in, including a particularly nice one from Kerrang! magazine.

What is your favourite track from the EP?

Alcohol & Vitamins (Jenn)
Milkshake Sky (Becky)

How has your tour gone down so far with The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing?

We’ve been playing to packed out crowds for two weeks now with TMTWNBBFN. We have had so much positive feedback from it, the reaction from fans has been great!

What tour date are you looking forward to playing most?

We’re all looking forward to returning to Frankfurt. We’ve played there twice now and both times have been awesome!

We’ve built up a decent following over there but have also made a lot of friends, who we can’t wait to see again. It’s also the last show of our 4 week tour, the day before my birthday and the day after Beckys so it’s going to be a proper party!

If could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Queens of The Stone Age, Josh Homme is one of my favourite songwriters. I’d like to do something a bit darker keeping some of IDestroy’s party punk elements.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not writing music?

Spare time ha, sleeping mostly!
