Self-confessed “ugly” popstar ZAND has been announced to play at this year’s Loud Women Fest.
The one-day festival takes places at both The Dome and Boston Music Room in Tufnell Park, and will take place on Saturday 15 September 2018.
Speaking about the festival, ZAND says: ‘I’m so excited to be on the bill for a festival with such an important message, along with playing alongside some of the sickest female and non-binary punk bands about in music at the moment! Feminism is lit.’
ZAND recently released their brand new single Boys Like U, which can be watched here:
Speaking about the message behind the song, ZAND claims that ”Boys Like U’ is a sarcasm-laced anthem for anyone who’s ever felt the wrath of a pitiful, self-entitled man.’
The single is available to download and stream now.
Known online for speaking out about trans issues and fighting against transphobia and bullying, ZAND built a committed fanbase within the LGBT+ community after coming out as non-binary in 2015.
Zander Sweeney, the genius behind the moniker, has found that this community has been nothing short of supportive: ‘Since coming out as non-binary trans at the end of 2015, the support and love I’ve received from fans in and out of the LGBT community has been incredible. I didn’t realise how many people there actually are out there like me, especially who listen to my music, and the amount of young trans people who have told me that I help to give them confidence in themselves regarding their gender identity and expression is one of the main things that pushes me to keep going during the hard times of transphobia, bullying and invalidation. We’re one big family over here and it just keeps getting bigger. I’ll never shut up about trans issues and fighting for what’s right.’
