Lokki, the new solo project of Drew MacFarlane – today releases debut EP, Cirrhi, which arrives just ahead of a string of headline shows and summer festival appearances, including London’s Slaughtered Lamb on April 5th, 2018. Stream Cirrhi below!
Cirrhi arrives close on the heels of Lokki’s new track Breathe A Breath Of Me, the second released from the EP. Unfurling from its sparse, almost hymnal beginnings, it rests upon Lokki’s ability to capture the profound in the prosaic detail of the everyday. Speaking about the track, Lokki says; ‘‘Breathe a Breath Of Me’ is about something we do every minute of every day. There’s a choir in the background, which creates the sense that when we breathe, the world breathes with us.’
Lokki originally emerged earlier this year with startling debut single I Catch You , a contemplative, after-hours track which arrived alongside a video created with Japanese calligraphy artist Akemi Lucas. The new EP draws together this & ‘Breathe A Breath Of Me’ alongside two new tracks from Lokki, including the gently psychedelic title track. Named after high-altitude cloud formations, ‘Cirrhi’ takes its cues from its namesake, with drowsy, multi-tracked vocals blown along atop little more than an acoustic guitar, to transportive effect. EP closer ‘The Night’ brings ‘Cirrhi’ to a fully-formed close, with the quiet longing of Macfarlane’s almost androgynous vocals buoyed by towering string and timpani arrangements.
