Album Review: Moose Blood – I Don’t Think I Can Do This Anymore

Canterbury Emo Rockers ‘Moose Blood’ release their third full-length studio album the poignantly pragmatic ‘I Don’t Think I Can Do This Anymore’. Understated opener ‘Have I Told You Enough’ sets an early pace and tone that is rarely deviated from. The slow-burning emotional pain that is compressed into IDTICDTA is de rigueur in modern Rock at the moment and Emo by its very nature is somewhat drowning under the volume of groups jumping on it’s slowly creaking bandwagon. Moose Blood avoids the enveloping waves of song surfing with an integral intelligence that gives their latest effort the buoyancy needed to keep their chins above water.

Next up is the relationship straining, green-eyed monster, oh woe is me anthem ‘Talk In Your Sleep’. ‘Just Outside’, ‘You Left In The Worst Way’ and ‘All The Time’ all push late night coffee cups across a loaded kitchen table of coming of age mental anguish. ‘Can We Stay Like This’ keeps the pre-mortgage and baby blues flowing with treacle timing while ‘Pull Me From The Floor’ plonks itself on the carpet of self-doubt. The haunting-ish of ‘Walk All Day With You’ flirts with early Alkaline-lite sensibilities. ‘Such A Shame’ follows the song map of vocals over drum and bass before the guitar kicks in and cuts the wrists of missed romantic opportunity. Penultimate track ‘Promise Me’ is yet another Warped tour mascara smearing contender. Finally ‘It’s Too Much’ is a fitting title for this glass half empty release of depressingly anthemic song and verse. Emo will not die no matter how much it wants to.
