Fuzzed up grunge rock Newcastle trio, Creature, are set to release their new single Reborn on 16th March. The band have had support from the likes of Alex Baker’s Fresh Blood Show on Kerrang Radio and BBC Radio Newcastle on their introducing show. For fans of Mudhoney and AllUsOnDrugs, Creature had an exciting few months last year with their track Bored going down a storm being picked up for airplay all over the country, including making the playlist on Will Bests’ BRIT 40 Chart Show on British Airways. The band play a special release show for Reborn on 16th March at Newcastle’s Little Buildings alongside ILSER, NVDE and Hightower Temple.

We managed to catch up with Creature’s bassist Crammond as he talks about the band’s upcoming single and more!
So how pumped are you for the release of Reborn?
We’re pretty excited for it, we’ve got a launch gig with some of our local favourites on, and it’s the first track we’re putting out with our new drummer, Jamie, who joined us in August.
Can you tell us something about the track no one else knows?
Not exactly about the track, but it has some themes in it including Dolls, and we thought it’d be cool to get a mannequin to use for a video, so now for the last like two months every practice or gig we go to we’ve been carting around “Marilyn Mannequin” as Sam’s dubbed her, and haven’t ended up using it that much.
Are you looking forward to your single release show at Little Buildings?
We can’t wait for the launch gig at little buildings, some of our favourite shows we’ve played have been there, such as Narc Fest last year with Sick Joy, and supporting False Advertising. It’s an amazing venue ran by the awesome guys in Truth Hurts, and we love every time we’re there.
Will you be releasing an EP or Album at all this year?
We’ve got studio time for another single lined up already so expect that late spring/early summer, and we’re looking at either an album or EP after that, see how the year takes us.
What’s the alternative scene like in Newcastle at the moment?
Personally I feel like the alternative scene in Newcastle is great, there’s loads of bands we love playing with around the area, such as ILSER, Hightower Temple, Dunes, Duchess, Ashes of Iron, and the metal scene is just as good, highlighted every year by the awesome Metal 2 the Masses that happens over a few months at Trillians
What do you think bands have to do to keep the smaller venues alive and kicking?
I think the best thing bands can do to help is keep making noise, putting on great sets to help draw people, and getting down to other gigs to support the venues and other acts in your area.
What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?
Well my main job is in IT so I do a lot of keeping up to date on that, but outside work it’s just music, music, music for me.
If you could work with any band on new song, who would it be and why?
I’d absolutely love to work with either Whores. or ’68, both from Canada. They’re just such massive sounding, monsters of noise, who craft their music so well, I can’t get enough of either one’s latest albums.
What was the first gig you attended?
The first gig I ever attended was at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, I was like, 14 maybe and it was seeing Slipknot on their All Hope Is Gone tour, with Machine Head (hot off releasing the Blackening) and Children of Bodom opening, I absolutely loved it.
