Interview: Mike Milan Dedic talks latest release

Mike Milan Dedic released his new single Escape back in October 2017. Mike grew up in the west end of Toronto, Ontario Canada and started playing guitar at the age of 12. With him being completely self taught, his influences are the likes of Uli Roth, Rhodes, Van Halen, Ritchie Blackmore and Malmsteen to name just a few. The artist has released three albums to date with the earliest being in 1987 with The Pleasure’s Yours through Axis Records on vinyl. Now Mike is back with his track Escape which you watch below (360VirtualReality).

We managed to catch up with Mike as he talked about his latest release and more!

How has the release of Escape gone down so far?

MMD:Pretty good! I’ve had a lot of positive feedback and reviews on the song
and it is getting airplay on several stations! It is difficult to please everyone as Guitar/instrumental Rock music may not be the first choice for the majority of Rock music listeners!

Tell us something about the single no one else knows?

MMD:Well, it is the first time I recorded a song using the internet as a tool!
On this song I had wonderful contributions from two amazing players: Jeff Vidov – Keyboards and Brian Latimer – Drums. We basically sent the song files back and forth to record our parts.

Was it hard to create the 360 virtual reality for the video and what made you do this?

MMD: Well, I have to give all the credit to Robert Metcalfe at Links Live Media: https://www.facebook.com/Linkslivemedia/

He is the one who suggested doing this style of video.

I know that it was extremely labour intensive for him as he had to stitch four separate filming takes of us to make it work in a 360 manner. With all his creativity and efforts he presented us with this video!
Thanks again Rob for all your hard work!!!!

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

MMD: There are so many cool bands and musicans out there that selecting one group or artist would be impossible for me to do!
I actually like all genres of music, as I firmly believe that within any genre there is great music to be enjoyed and discovered!

With being self taught, how much of a challenge has it been to create music?

MMD: Creating music is absolutely no challenge at all for me! I just go about my business and put
together things that just feel right to me.
Sometimes it might not be theoretically correct, but, in my opinion, if it sounds right,
then it is right!

What’s the alternative live scene like in Toronto?

MMD: In all fairness, I really don’t attend many shows around town at all.
Toronto is a big vibrant city with a lot of venues, big and small, for all kinds of bands and artists to play at. I would think it is an opportunistic place for performing acts to build a following and take it from there!

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

MMD: I’m a fairly ‘stay at home’ type of person. I regularly meet up with close friends to hang out or just take in a movie.

What was the first gig you ever attended?

MMD: It was the summer of 1979 and I saw KISS in downtown Toronto!
For a ten year old kid seeing their theatrics live, was quite an experience!
