Interview: The Bad Bees talk latest release

Philadelphia band The Bad Bees recently released an EP, Big Pretty.

They also released a music video for the EP’s lead single BooWho prior to the EP release.

Formed in 2015. Their music ebbs and flows from the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins and Grizzly Bear to Chon and The Mars Volta. Check out BooWho below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest release and more!

So how has the release of your EP Big Pretty gone down so far with fans?

It’s been nice having something new for folks to take home with them after shows. The reaction has been nothing but positive so far. It took a while before everything felt good with this one, and there’s even still some things that we wise happened but everyone seems to be enjoying it so we’re satisfied.

Have you got a favourite track from the EP?

Karma Suits You, it’s the fourth track. The EP starts with a wave of big energy and it carries that pace throughout until this song. It’s a pause, and a breath above the clouds before the last great plunge in the EP’s lineup.

Can you tell us something about the EP no one else knows?

If you hold it up under moonlight it will reveal to you your truest most inner desires.

How has the video for BooWho gone down so far?

It’s gotten some interesting reactions and a lot of explaining and re explaining has happened so far but all in all good vibes. We were shooting for some serious abstract feels and if you see it I think you’ll agree we’re in the ballpark. It’s visually stimulating and colorful. We wanted a sense of story and action happening throughout but nothing too involved so as not to take away from the song itself.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

There’s a band out there that we all recently got turned onto called Vundabar. Currently my new jam. It would be really cool to have the chance to meet those guys and share ideas.

What’s the alternative scene like in Philadelphia at the moment?

Philly music scene is harsh, but fruitful. It’s a grinding stone. Only the toughest bands make it through. Any given night there are guys with serious talent taking the stage and it can be disheartening if you’re not prepared to improve every night. For us, every show is a learning experience and we’ve had such an awesome time seeing what all these awesome bands cook up to outdo each other.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

Jt is a brewery, Bryan is a chemist,
Brandon enjoys mixed martial arts, and Jacob is an avid grinder of the crucible on Destiny.

What was the first gig you attended?

The first concert I ever attended was the Slayer Unholy Alliance Tour in 2006 in Camden N.J. #littlerebelrouser
