Interview: The King’s Parade talk latest single ‘Women’

Woman sees the highly acclaimed London quartet The King’s Parade addressing the issues of gender imbalance which are witnessed on a daily basis in society.

The new single follows the release of the Haze EP last year, which saw the band receive high profile support from BBC 6 Music, BBC introducing, The Independent, Wonderland, Alternative Press, EARMILK and many more.

Its release saw them appear at summer festivals including Secret Garden Party and Cornbury Festival, while they played sold out shows across the UK and Europe.

Most recently The King’s Parade have been nominated for three awards at the Unsigned Music Awards 2018 including ‘Best Record’, ‘Best Produced Record’ and ‘Best Blues Act’. Check out Women below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their latest single and more!

How has the release of Women gone down so far?

We’ve had a great reaction so far. The crowd really got behind the track at the release show in Hoxton last week and the track seems to be getting a lot of Spotify streams and playlist pickups.

Can you tell us something about the track no one else knows?

A record number of carrots and pots of hummus were consumed during the recording of the song.

Will be releasing an EP or album this year?

We’re releasing an EP this year and hopefully a couple of extra singles towards the end of the year too.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Alabama Shakes. We’re in love with their sound and think Olly and Brittany would sound incredible together. There’s actually one song in our set called ‘Alright for you’ that we think would sound amazing as a collaboration together. Point them in our direction, please!

What is your favourite venue to play at?

Oslo, Hackney

Do you think you have a chance in the Unsigned Music Awards 2018 and are you looking forward to the night?

Yeah we’ve definitely got a good shot for sure. We’ve been nominated for three awards so we’re in with a chance for sure. We’re all really looking forward to the night, we were nominated a few years ago so have been before and it’s a great chance to catch up with some of our favourite artists and meet new people too.

What was the first gig you all attended?

Olly – Linkin Park @ Paris Bercy
Sam – Ben Folds @ Birmingham NEC
Chris – RHCP @ Hyde Park
Tom – Billy Cobham and Asere

What do you all get up to when not working on music?

Olly and Tom are both keen distance runners so they spend quite a lot of time training for their next half-marathons and marathons, sometimes together but more often than not alone. Sam is a bit of a fish and he recently completed a 6km sea swim in Spain so he spends quite a bit of time at the pool training when he’s not with the band. Chris is a bit of a bookworm so you’ll find him sat on his bed with his head in a book.
