Interview: Krang talk latest album

Krang was founded in the end of December 2014 in Czech Republic by 4 friends who also play in another bands as a ‘fun’ side project trying to play 90’s skatepunk music such as Millencolin, Descendents, Bad Religion. Early 2015, they recorded a 4 songs EP called OK USA! and all the lyrics were funny about their favourite movies and actors like Steven Seagal or Top Gun. Then, they started working on a full length, an album called Baddest Brain released on an American label Bird Attack Records in late 2015. In 2016 we have been touring Mexico and Central America tour which was a huge success. In May and July 2017 they have toured Israel and Japan. They have released a new album called Singalong which was released on 21th January 2018 on Bird Attack Records and Melodic Punk Style. The band are also planning a UK and US tour for 2018.

Check out the band’s latest album, Singalong, below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest album and more!

How has the release of Singalong gone down with fans so far?

So far so good! After the pretty surprising success of our first album called Baddest Brain we were a bit afraid to at least continue in it but from the all reviews and reactions of people it’s really good.

Can you tell us something about the album no one else knows?

We came to studio with eight songs and album has eleven – do the math. Yes 3 of them songs we made in hurry in studio.

What is your favourite track from the release?

Its different for each member but mine (Stanley – bass) is Life is like a Mortal Kombat – good lyrics, great to play it live and MK is my love.

What’s the alternative scene like in Czech Republic at the moment?

The alternative scene as a whole is pretty big a lot of metal (I mean really a lot), also hardcore is kinda strong and there are a lot of new bands. When it comes to punkrock is getting worse there are like 5 really good bands ( Rabies, Criminal Colection, Just for Being …) and down on a bottom is skatepunk – we are the only one here. We have few really good big punkrock/alternative festivals like Mighty Sounds (ska, punk,hc) , Fluff Fest (hc), Rock For People (rock, alternative,hc) and couple others. Club scene is also quite good especially in Prague where there are shows everyday.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Haha we have talked about in band but it was a hard decision. Each of us wants someone different but lets say IF we have to agree as a band it will be Descendents or No Trigger that’s the point where all of us meets – Descendets because they good that “father nerd” drive in them a Milo’s vocal is just great and working with them will be kinda like father-son stuff. No Trigger because its another point where we meet and each song from No Trigger have sooo much drive in it! For me personally, it will be Bad Religion – because BAD RELIGION!!!!

Have you got any gigs or festivals lined up for 2018?

Yes its different from last year. Now its early February and we have plans/tours and booked shows until end of 2018! it’s insane. We have like 15 club shows until end of May, small tour in UK, we play Mighty Sounds, Rock For People, Summer punk party Volyne festivals in Czech Republic and planing big tour in September. Looking forward to it!

If you could play at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

In my life I have played from garages to big festivals and it doesn’t matter the place. It’s a matter of crowd and sound of course. But you could have great sound of stage and you think YEAAH I ROCK but it could be ball of crap coming out. Or it could be vice versa. I prefer small packed clubs around 100 – 200 people those are the best place to play for me.

What was the first gig you all ever attended?

First punk gig I have ever attended was tour of Manifesto Jukebox (swe) and Wasted (fin) in a squat called VRAH (murderer) here in Czech Republic around 2000. And it was jaw dropping – people with tattoos, loud music a lot of drunk people, family feeling even if I dont know anyone kinda thing you can feel only at punk shows.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not making music?

I am not a social person so playing games on the computer during winter, walking with my dog in the forest in the summer and traveling and reading comic books for the rest of the time.
