The Amber Bugs recently released their new single David Dimbleby and today the band have exclusively announced in an interview that they will be releasing their next single Gingers: We ain’t got no souls in March!
Having played together in other bands for close to a decade in 2015 Ben, Jon and Teresa formed The Amber Bugs in a dirty London railway arch. Songs aren’t quite sung, they are ripped from a throat that can’t get them out any other way. Instruments are hit hard and stories are told with honesty and passion
.
The band have spent the past year honing their live show, securing support slots alongside the likes of Jingo, Fiende Fatale and The Scruff Club. Check out David Dimbleby below!
We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their latest single, new music and more!
So how has the release of ‘David Dimbleby’ gone down initially?
People are really responding to it. It’s funny, we knew we were exploring a genre that’s a little bit of departure from what we’ve done before but we’ve had tonnes of people say we sound like different ska bands tonnes of which we’d never even heard of which is great cos it led to us listening to some amazing bands who are right up our street!
What inspired you with for this release?
Really with this release and the next one, it’s all about the horn section. It’s the first time we’ve had one and we’ve just made this big effort to make them feature vehemently in the songs.
Can you tell us something about the song nobody knows?
Oooo there’s lots of little Easter Eggs in it both lyrically and musically but I kind of want to leave them for people to find on their own.
Will there be an album or EP released in 2018?
We’re releasing another single in March called Gingers: We ain’t got no souls (That’s an exclusive, no one outside the band has been told that yet 🙂 )
We’re also going to do some more recordings in the spring. It’s not going to be a full length album but it’s going to be very exploratory. We may just release a string of singles that are connected by a theme rather than an EP. Releasing music is so flexible now and we’re not going into it with rigid ideas. We’ll see where the songs lead us I guess.
If you could work with any band on a new song who would it be and why?
At the moment I can’t stop listening to Sonic Boom Six. Those guys are killing it right now!
Will you be touring at all in 2018?
Yeah, We’re doing a mini tour in May. Setting off in London and heading to North Wales playing wherever we can along the way.
If you could play at any venue in the world, where would it be?
Anywhere that’s small and dirty. We’re not a stadium band and have no desire to be. Intimate gigs are always the best. That said if I get call from Michal Eavis I’m not saying no 🙂
What was the first gig you all attended?
Ben:
I saw Ziggy Marley and the Wailers in Cambridge when I was about 14.
Teresa:
Prince!
Jon:
Cast in Glocester!
What got you into music in the first place?
We’ve all played since we were kids. Jon comes from a family of drummers and Gran is a badass classical pianist which is a skill we will surely utilise at some point. She and I played together in a band called Buswell who do this big scale folk orchestral thing. We were hanging out after a few whiskies and I mentioned that I needed to find a bassist and she promptly voluntered dispite never having played bass before. She’s picked it up bloody quick though.
