Album Review: Spunk Volcano and the Eruptions – Not Wired Up Right

Rebellion favourites, chav poets and all round Rocky Punk popsters SPUNK VOLCANO AND THE ERUPTIONS return with their brand new full-length release, the salt swilling ‘Not Wired Up Right’. This album fizzes with wonderfully crass and politically incorrect, modern-day factory cafe slang. Opener and title track rips the Punk band-aid off this septic wound with a vomiting riff of Motorhead regurgitation. The stupendous ’Nobhead’ is followed by a slightly more melodic ’Shut Down’ and (my) track of the album, the housewarming nightmare of ’Gatecrash’. ‘You’re The Bastard’, ‘Out Of The Blue’ plus the bizarre ‘Dementia Hurricane’ keep the ram raid fleeing motor running at ninety. A punchy duo of ‘Knuckledusters And Scars’ and ‘Smack In the Teeth’ give way to a final surprise. The strangely emotive semi-acoustic, jet-lagged, hung-over, anthem ‘Purely Medicinal’. ‘Not Wired Up Right’ should be sponsored by Red Bull, it’s a short, sharp and a bittersweet hit of instant Punk Rock energy with added Street-Pop melody. Do yourself a favour this Christmas and ask Santa for some festive Spunk!
