Interview: Lightscape talk upcoming EP

Alternative rock quintet Lightscape will release their eagerly anticipated new EP Circles on the 1st December 2017. Being arguably the freshest new band in the UK, both their live show and studio recordings are undoubtedly incredible. Like all upcoming British bands, Lightscape aspire to be an arena sized band one day who not only play music, but put on a show hitting on their audiences emotions and senses. Having previously appeared on Kerrang Radio, BBC Norfolk and Alt Press, their forthcoming EP Circles, recorded with Oz Craggs at Hidden Track Studios, is their best material to date. For fans of Don Broco and Thirty Seconds To Mars, bands who are all extremely driven by the music they create, their forthcoming release is a testament of their intricate song writing abilities and addictive sound. The EP title Circles sums up all of the tracks on the EP perfectly, although there are negative things being the root cause it ends on a positive outlook by promoting a unifying society. Having supported the likes of Fort Hope, Lonely The Brave and Black Stone Cherry in the last twelve months, Lightscape are thriving, full of energy and passion. This new EP offering is the perfect next chapter in the bands career. Check out By Design from the band below!

We managed to catch up with Sam Nichol from the band as he talked about the upcoming EP and more!

So how pumped are you for the release of Circles?

We are so excited for the release next week! Its been a long time coming, some of these songs we’ve had for a year now, we’ve sat on it for so long!

Tell us something about the EP nobody knows?

The Single ‘By Design’ took quite an extensive rework! we had recorded it back in November last year, but there was something that wasn’t right with the first half of the tune. So we restructured and recorded it again in May in our second session. I guess it just goes to show that if we ever have any doubt anywhere along the recording process that we cant just accept it, we care too much for it to be a half-assed effort.
What was your favourite moment recording the EP?

I love the whole process, its great listening to your creations take shape in a refined format. There’s nothing better than being in the studio all day then going for food and beers after with no other objective in mind but music!

What is your favourite track from the EP?

Its a toss up between More to Life/ Haven’t got the time. More to Life has a great energy to it that is different to what we’ve done before. Haven’t Got The Time is an epic song that we’ve always wanted to write. Sends goosebumps up the arms.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Thats a tricky one, Making music is quite a self indulgent process that we do with in the band and we respect and like each others influence. To work with someone else, regardless of whether they’re in our favourite band or not might just turn out to be a incompatible mess.
It would be cool to do a song with a female singer for a different dynamic though, Ellie Golding would be fun!

What’s the alternative scene like in Norfolk?

The scene in Norwich is cool, We have a lot of decent venues to choose from for our hometown shows, and most bands we gig with are all of a decent mindset and care about keeping the scene good! I wouldnt say our scene is the dominant though. There’s a big indie scene and a lot of metal bands playing the pub circuit.
If you could play at any venue you in the world, where would it be?
Probably Brixton Academy – Its an an amazing building

Will you be touring at all this year or 2018?

After just coming back off tour, we’re done and dusted for 2017 (have actually started writing again)
but 2018 is all about getting our on the road playing to new crowds up and done the country, hopefully doing some festivals and maybe playing abroad some more!

What was the first gig you all first attended?

Mine (Sam) Rise Against
Will and Ben was Bon Jovi (different shows)
Jimmy – Pendulum
Christy – Dragonforce

What is it like to be supported by the likes of Scuzz TV?

Its great being supported by Scuzz, We’ve all been roaming the TV channels and discovered one song that we fall in love with. We hope the same happens to someone else with our songs.
