Interview: Weekend Recovery

Weekend Recovery is a 4 piece rock/pop band already created quite the buzz. With only being formed last year Weekend Recovery has already been signed to Headcheck Records (Maid of Ace, Bleach, Turbulent Hearts.) and have had the support of BBC Kent Introducing and NME Presents Evening as well as headlining at the famous Alley Cat and playing at The O2 Academy.

With the support of the likes of BBC and NME, the band has plenty of potential have are set to release their new single Why don’t you love me? on 30th November.

Until this is released however you can check out another song Don’t Try and Stop Me below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their upcoming single and more!
So how pumped are you for the release of ‘Why don’t you love me?’
Josh
I have to say why don’t you love me is possibly one of my favs and is showing you what is to come with the new album, bringing you that fast, pumped sound that we are all about.
Tell us something about the single nobody knows
Lori
I wrote the chorus to this song on my way to work – I literally pulled into a lay by and sung it into the voice recorder on my phone haha!
How is this different to previous releases?
Lori
I feel like this is an introduction into the more garage rock influenced type of writing we’re doing moving forward – and will be seen through out the album – I’ve been listening to a lot of different artists recently and have fallen in love again with The White Stripes – I love that double tracked rough around the edges sound Jack White has going on – and I guess that’s started to reflect in my writing (I hope)

So you’ve had the support from the likes of BBC and NME, how much does this mean to you?
Owen
It still doesn’t feel real! We’re all very proud to be recognised by two titans in the world of music distribution and actually in the world of music as a whole! We’re just happy to be able to make music that we like and are the proud of. The fact that other people like it and want to listen to it is still really cool to me!

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Marcus
I’d say its quite difficult for me to choose a band that i’d like to work with to write songs, mainly because I’ve grown up listening to hundreds of bands. Iron maiden was the very first band that i listened. They were also very influential for me. I’d say iron maiden for that reason. Since joining weekend recovery i’ve enjoyed helping to create the new songs for our new album.

Will you be planning on touring at all next year or any festivals?
Josh
We have already got a load of dates for a tour next year that start in February and we are pretty much everywhere in the uk for that. As of festivals I can’t really comment for now but there are some rumours that we might be playing some big names.

What was the first gig you all ever attended?
Lori
Muse at Wembley with support from My Chemical Romance and Biffy Clyro – I’m gutted because I was very young and didn’t appreciate it all as much as I would now! I always say don’t have regrets but that is one 100%!

Owen
Probably Take That on The Circus tour when I was about 8 or 9 haha! My first ‘gig’ experience was probably Reading 2015, when Mumford and Sons and Metallica headlined! That was a sick weekend. The first proper rock gig I ever saw though was probably Dorje at the gig at The Key Club back in 2015 I think! I’m big into alternative-metal so that was a great ‘first’ gig for me to see how it should be done!

Marcus
My first gig would have been Metallica quite a few years ago when I was a kid. This was the very first metal band that I saw live. I can remember watching them down at sheffield arena.

Josh
My first gig I ever saw was iron maiden when I was around 15, I just remember the first note hitting me in the face with sound…. pretty loud gig to be fair.

If you could play at any venue, where would it be and why?
Marcus
i’ve always wanted to play somewhere big,so maybe leeds O2 or sheffield arena mainly because these are the venues that I went to growing up as a kid.

Owen
Not really a single venue, but I’d love to play the headline slot at Reading Festival one day. I grew up watching the BBC highlight reels of the main stage acts. Biffy Clyro were the first band that made me think, “I WANNA DO THAT”. When they headlined in 2013 and 2016, I was blown away! Either that, or the NME tent at Reading Fest. That’s always been my favourite tent to see bands in! Limp Bizkit, Don Broco, The 1975, Catfish and The Bottlemen… the list goes on! So many great bands I love have played in that one tent. Oh yeah, and playing Glastonbury wouldn’t be too bad haha!

Lori
Round house – 110% such a kick ass venue! We are still taking bookings for next year so Mr or Mrs Roundhouse if you’re reading this…you know….

Josh
If I could play any venue it would’ve probably have been old Wembley, just so many of my heroes have been on there it’d just be great
