Interview: Astro Lasso talk latest release

Astro Lasso is an electric indie pop band made of two members from York, PA – Jordan Davis and Tristan Martin. The sound is a fresh mix of melodic song writing and cutting electric samples and beats. The mix of the two make for a new sound that has grown from Davis and Martin’s original band Kingsfoil. They put on a high energy two person live show with a full band sound. The duo are managed by Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz who is currently on Dancing with the Stars. Astro Lasso recently released their self titled EP earlier this year and you can check out Someday below

We managed to catch up with the duo as they talk about their latest release and more!

How has your self titled EP gone since release?

Really well! Our fans from our previous band Kingsfoil are so supportive of AstroLasso and having the chance to tour with We The Kings really helped push the release to new ears.

Recently, our song “Conquer” was on MTV’s show Teen Mom and “The Only Part” appeared in the Netflix series Bloodline.

Tell us something about the EP no one knows?

The sound at the beginning Conquer is from leaving the keys in the ignition of my old Volvo with the door open. I was recording a vocal idea in my car and ended up sampling the sound and using it to start the song.

Since the EP’s release I have a new car with a new “open door sound.” I’m planning on trying to incorporate it into one of the songs on the new EP but it has to be in the same key. We’ll see!

What is your favourite track from to play live?

For a while it was Conquer but lately my favorite track to play live is “The Only Part.” Whenever we play it Tristian and I really seem to settle into a groove.

Will there be new music this year?

Our goal is to get the new EP out to our fans before the New Year. We have been writing so many new songs that it actually slowed down our progress a little bit because we just want to include everything on the EP!

We’re currently picking out our favorite songs (which is taking entirely too long) but we feel like it’s important to give our fans the best EP we can possibly produce.

How was your hometown show earlier this month?

We had an amazing time at Kable House Presents in York, PA! In addition to sharing the bill with The Shake Up and Younger Me, who are both York bands and friends of ours, we introduced three of the new songs and they were such a blast to play. The whole night was great!

What’s it like being managed by Frankie Muniz, were you always good friends with him?

Such a nightmare….haha just kidding!! Frankie’s a great friend and is extremely talented at thinking outside of the box when it comes to promoting and pushing out our new music. He also has a high level of enthusiasm and excitement for the music that helps us push ourselves to be the best that we can.

If you could work with any artist or band in the world, who would it be and why?

We would love to work with Ed Sheeran. We opened for him as Kingsfoil and it was an amazing experience – he was unbelievably kind to us. It’s nice to meet somebody that talented and who is also such a great person.

What was the first gig you all ever attended?

Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne! It was amazing.
