Interview: Weesp

Weesp is an electronic/alternative rock band from Minsk, Belarus, that has formed its own unique style. Since 2008 the band received numerous publications worldwide and has given many concerts, including festivals in Belarus, Russia and Poland. Weesp will be touring throughout November for their ‘Human. Exe Multinational Tour’ The band’s latest album is titled The Void, and you can check it out below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest release and more!

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

Our last release – the full-length album The Void – was exactly right. He allowed us to go on tours throughout 2016 and 2017.
Of course we got a boost of fans in social networks and visitors at concerts.

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Our new release is composed and played on fundamentally new devices. The guitarist uses a new 8 string custom made guitar tuned to F #.
The electronic guy uses a completely new set of devices, and the bass player completely changed his pedalboard.
New album is going to be mixed with the new analog console Neve Genesys Black, which came to the studio exactly to the time of mixing the album.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

When we were considering the possibility to record track with guest musicians for a new release – of course we thought about many of them.
Starting from were very famous musicians, and not very well-known, as well as talented musicians from local scene.
In the end, we decided not to write songs with guest musicians for this album, but unanimously we would like to invite Keanu Reeves as a Vocals / Spoken Words performer.
And not only for the sake of getting a HYIP, but also because we have great respect for this person, we consider him to be a talented and interesting person.

How has your latest single been received?

The last release is our full-length album The Void, and after it there were no singles.
Now we are performing new tracks – and the audience takes them very warmly.
We release a single (and not even one) since mid-November in support of the new album.
Also there will be new music videos. And how the Internet audience will accept them – we will find out literally in a month or two.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

Lex, the frontman of the band, describes the new song as
“being deeply personal for each band member, because it reveals a mindset of a creative person and how they interact with the world.
It is about faith, struggling, finding own way and staying yourself – these are the main themes, the message that pierces through each song from the upcoming ‘Black Sails’ album.
We generally like to create songs that represent certain feelings and make you understand that the moment you hear them. So to continue with the topic of feelings,
I’d describe “illumination” as ‘ice cold water around you and at the same time fire burning in your heart’.”

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

The next tour will start in a week – starting on November 3rd, 2017. We will play in Poland and Germany with our friends from Berlin ‘Redlake Circus’ and Poles ‘Tension Zero’.
And then in December starts next tour thru Belarus (our country of birth) and Ukraine with ‘Redlake Circus’ as well. All tours are in support of the new album release.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

Of course we would like to perform at steep festivals such as Sziget, Rock am Ring and others next summer!

What else can we expect from you as we head towards 2018?

In January-February we release the album. In the beginning of the year two new music videos are released.
In March, a new European tour is planned. Also we are not going to stop and will release a few singles in the second half of 2018.
