DANTE Unveil first new material in 4 years ‘Rose’

DANTE – release the first single, Rose, from the forthcoming sophomore LP, I Wear your Weight with Mine.

As premiered by Clash Magazine today (19 Oct) and hailed as ‘a brooding, poetic, and powerful return from the Scottish band’, you can also watch the video for Rose here:

The track was produced by Andy Monaghan of Frightened Rabbit, and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana’s Nevermind). The track sees the Scottish indie band burst back on the scene with a dark, high-energy track, that has echoes of The National and Interpol, whilst further showcasing the band’s talent for songwriting and depth of lyrical content.

The release follows a very successful first LP, Wake, which was hailed by the likes of The Skinny and Art Rocker, and also featured in The Herald’s Top 50 albums that year. The album launched the band on a series of UK headline dates, play a host of major music festivals and also take in their first North American shows in New York and Philadelphia.

Recorded in Slate Room Studios in Pencaitland, Scotland, Rose is evidence of a band that really put in the hours on songwriting, of the track frontman McLaughlin states:

‘This record also saw a shift in how we write, whereas our first LP, Wake, was essentially all my own creative output, there was a lot more collaboration on the new tracks – Rose in particular grew out of a great jangly hook that Steve (Stephen Thom – Mandolin/Guitar) came up with on the electric mandolin and it just blossomed organically from there – if you excuse the puns! The band has been together in the current lineup for a few years now, since we toured the first record, and consequently feels a lot more democratic, in terms of creative process.’

He adds:

‘For me this track represents adjusting to huge changes in my life from my mid-twenties to turning 30. It reflects a difficult time, but there’s genuine love and affection in there, – a desire to get past all the stressful but meaningless bullshit that we all go through on a daily basis and just focus on loving someone. I hope a few people can relate.’

With the release of their second album on the horizon, Dante are ones to watch for 2018.

Rose will be available to purchase on 27th October. It is also available now with digital pre-orders of the album.
