ROAM recently released their second album, the singalong gold that is Great Heights & Nosedives earlier this month via Hopeless Records. Having recently finished up a UK tour supporting New Found Glory, who they’ll also be touring North America with soon, ROAM will be back on the road in the UK before the end of the year and recently today announced WSTR will support them along with Stand Atlantic. Great Heights & Nosedives is the follow up to 2016’s debut Backbone and was produced by Kyle Black (State Champs, New Found Glory, Comeback Kid) in Los Angeles, California. We managed to catch up with drummer Miles Gill as he talked about the upcoming tour, latest release and more!
How pumped are you for your UK headline tour in December?
Very. We haven’t headlined since last November and it’s always fun playing shows on home territory. It will also be the first time we play songs from the new record in the UK so I’m excited to see how they are going to be received. The supports are great too.
Is there any particular venue you are most looking forward to playing?
The Dome should be a great show as it’s the biggest venue on the tour. It’s also the show that’s closest to our hometowns. Mama Roux’s should be a good show as well, we played in Birmingham with New Found Glory recently and it was the best reception we had across the whole tour so it’ll be fun going back to headline.
So you’ve recently released single ‘Alive’, tell us something no one knows about this track?
Before we travelled to LA to record the new album, we demo’d all the songs and sent them over to Kyle (Black, producer) in order to get some pre-production notes. His response to the demo for ‘Alive’ was simply “Bangtown”.
So you’ve just released Great Heights & Nosedives this month also, how has this gone?
Currently speaking, the album has just been released and it’s been great so far. It’s always going to be slightly nerve wracking releasing something to the world that you’ve been so personally involved with and worked so hard on so it’s awesome that it’s been well received.
What is your favourite track from the album?
There’s a few. My personal favourites are Alive, Left For Dead, Open Water and Home.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
I’m gonna say Blink because they’re such a legendary band in our scene. Either that or an artist like Post Malone, maybe we could do something cool together.
Do you think the UK pop-punk scene is stronger than it ever was?
The UK scene does seem particularly healthy at the moment. What’s cool as well is there is a lot of bands that are part of this genre but there’s still bands managing to find their own sound and bring something slightly different to the table.
What was your first gig you all ever attended?
Funnily enough, I didn’t grow up with the rest of the guys in the band so we never went to a show all together when we were younger. We went up and saw Sum 41 at Brixton earlier this year though so that was super cool.
