Interview: Survival Kit talk latest single

Survival Kit of Atlanta, GA uses their widespread influences to create a sound that is truly their own. The music is about situations that we all face in life and how we perceive and handle those as a group. Our goal is to help reassure you that you are not alone in your struggles and to give you the confidence to take on the world. Featuring Travis Blake, Andrew Lynn, Billy ‘Two Times’ Kilgore and Allen Beck, the band recently released their new single Valedictorian which you can check out below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about the latest single and more!

How pumped are you for the release of Valedictorian?

Have you seen the end of Braveheart? It’s like that. If you haven’t seen Braveheart you should.

Can you tell us something about the single no one knows?

Everything we write (including this single) starts on an acoustic guitar.

Will there be an album/EP released this year?

No plans for anything but single releases this year. Next year is going to be a big year for us, I believe, so there is a good chance you’ll see a full length by the end of the year.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

I would love to write with Max Bemis of Say Anything. Dude is a genius.

What’s the alternative music scene like in Atlanta at the moment?

A lot of hardcore & metal here. The alternative artists tend to work together to make great things happen in the city, but most of the alternative scene breaks way into the dance music scene once they turn 18. Those are the top selling events in the city. PEOPLE WANNA DANCE. Hell we love to dance. Believe me…you’ll dance with us soon too.

Will you be touring at all this year?

We toured all throughout the Northeast in August. Right now were just recording, traveling, networking, and making sure our foundation is completely solid before taking any next steps. We do have several shows in the Atlanta area though!

What was the first gig you all attended?

The first show we ever played as Survival Kit was at the original Masquerade – Purgatory stage. It’s since been moved into Kenny’s Underground and has some incredible stages like the old place. We hold that place very near and dear to our hearts here in Atlanta.

What was your favourite moment recording the latest single?

Honestly, just being with our producer, Aaron Pace. Dude is incredibly talented and and we consider him one of our best friends. I highly recommend AP Audio to anyone seeking to have a serious impact on the music industry one day. He’s help shape us into songwriting machines.
