Following the very successful and unwavering Faith In Me and Living In Shadows, vicious metalcore quartet October Ends recently released Dismissal – the third single off the band’s critically acclaimed release – A New Path!
Containing a strong and sincere message aiming to help those going through hard times in the process of moving on from discouraging circumstances, Dismissal is a multi-layered metalcore product, presented by a dynamic and energetic video showcasing the highlights of the group’s most recent headline tour!
We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about the video and more!
How has the video for Dismissal gone so far?
Unbelievable that’s all we can say really. We thought there would be some interest as it’s our third video, but we never expected this much reaction. We have had more interaction and messages from fans as a result of this music video, compared to our other two. It’s quite surreal.
Tell us something about the video no one knows?
We’re not sure if there is anything about the video that no one knows. When we were talking to Lewis Dodds (Lewis Dodds Photography) at the start of the weekend tour, he asked us what we would like him to capture, and unanimously, we all just said keep the camera rolling and do your thing as his videos are second to none! Also, we do not yet have a permanent bassist, so the bassist in the music video is Andrew, a good friend of ours from a solid band named Altostratus!
What was it like doing this live in front of a crowd?
It was quite fun to be honest. It gave the crowd something to go nuts for even more. We’re not sure if people are used to seeing smaller bands like ourselves do live recordings for a new video, so we thought we would try something different and it seemed to pay off very well.
How has the release of A New Path gone down with fans?
The amount of positive response we have gotten was more than we expected. We have even had fans from Japan and Europe contact us asking to purchase our EP. We are humbled by all the support we’ve received thus far, and it drives us to write more new music!
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
We would all choose Architects. Their songwriting is phenomenal and to us they are one of the best metal bands out there right now. It would be a dream to work together with Architects.
How pumped are you for your gig at Jumpin Jacks?
We’re honored and excited to play alongside the great bands on the bill! But importantly, like any gig we play, we look forward to performing to our fans. As John couldn’t make it for this gig due to work, our good friend Alex from Altostratus will be filling in for him.
What was the first gig you all attended?
Besides gigs that we play in, we have not attended a gig altogether with every member of the band present before. A memorable one that George, John and Kelvin have gone to together would be when Asking Alexandria headlined the Newcastle O2 Academy in 2015, with supports including Memphis May Fire, August Burns Red and In Hearts Wake. Not to say that Michael doesn’t go to gigs!
What was your favourite moment while recording your latest EP?
If we had to pick one single moment it would have to be seeing the tracks come to life – from adding the samples that Christos Mavridis (George’s brother) has made for us, to getting the finished product back from Myroslav Borys (Jigsaw Audio). Normally whilst recording, it’s hard to let go and say that’s enough, but we all worked so hard on “A New Path” that we didn’t have that problem. We all kind of took a step back and went “Wow, that is it!”. And we are all happy with the end results.
If you could play at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?
Wembley stadium would be at the top of our list of venues to play at the moment, as it’s huge and we think the organisers are doing a fantastic job! Maybe one day we will get the chance.
