Interview: Oceans talk upcoming single

Determination and passion is the bread and vegan-butter of this predominantly Brighton based post-hardcore/alternative rock band. With Oceans only having one original member left, they are going harder and stronger than ever before. They are flying the DIY flag and taking the underground UK rock scene head on with frequent gigging and four tours within the space of a successful year.

Oceans naturally emulate the musicalities of Incubus, the energy of Funeral For a Friend and the passion of While She Sleeps all to bring forward a captivating and spirited performance whilst maintaining vibrant originality throughout their songwriting.

Oceans’ new single Dopamine is a conceptual tune, open to each individual’s own interpretation.
For Oceans the track is an excerpt of euphoric dreams, which are naturally driven and brought to life by the human brain’s excitement chemical – DOPAMINE. The track is set for release on 24th September.

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about the upcoming single and more!

Tell us something about the single no one knows?
Well the main guitar melody/hook is actually taken from a really old Oceans song!

Will there be an EP/Album released this year?
We’re hoping to release two singles before we launch the EP so I doubt the EP would be released in 2017 BUT WHO KNOWS! We could be wrong…

Have you got any gigs lined up at all?
Lots actually! We’re hitting the road for the ‘Dopamine Tour’ this month and that includes two shows in one day! The dates are:
September 24th – Southampton – Joiners
September 25th – Bournemouth – The Anvil
September 26th – Brighton – The Green Door Store
September 28th – London – The Finborough Arms
September 29th – Leicester – PI Bar
September 30th – Letchworth – Letchworth Festival
September 30th – Hertford – Jungle Bar
October 1st – Northampton – The Lad

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
We’d all agree that we’d love to work with the amazing ‘Holding Absence’ in any scenario! Those guys are incredible and it’s great to see them take off like they are.

What was the first gig you ever attended?
Zach’s was Alice Cooper, Tom’s was Butserfest, James’s was Dog Is Dead, Conor’s was Duran Duran and Jack’s was Robbie Williams!

What’s the alternative music scene like in Brighton right now?
Vibrant as ever! We all personally attend gigs regularly and going to a lot of shows in Brighton is a fundamental part of being a Brightonian and that contributes well to Brighton’s great music scene.

What was your favourite moment while recording the new single?
The whole process of recording was amazing and the vibe was great throughout! Probably the best aspect of recording was the location. We recorded in the middle of no where with no civilisation in sight for miles. We were surrounded by countless mammals and birds including loads of peacocks!
