Following their recent announcement of joining the Incendia Music roster, Nottingham based metal outfit The Five Hundred are set to obliterate the scene with their blend of crushingly euphoric and infectious metal.
Big things are on the horizon for the Nottingham-Gibraltar quintet who are raring to set their career ablaze. The band have just launched a new music video for their track Ghost In The Flames, which is taken from their second EP release The Veil, out now.
We managed to catch up with band as they talked about the latest video and more!
How has the release of the video of Ghost In The Flames gone so far?
It’s been awesome. Metal Hammer liked it enough to premiere the release, and people have started singing along to it every time it’s played in the rock bars and clubs we’ve been to. It’s always such a buzz when that happens.
Tell us something about the track no one knows?
John has a fascination with ghosts and the supernatural, sonthats where the theme comes from. We worked with American writer Grant Skelton, who wrote an awesome short story about a dwindling reverend who fools innocent families into believing their kids are possessed so he can film an exorcism for a reality TV show. We loved the story so used that as inspiration for the song.
How has the EP The Veil gone down with fans?
The reception has been incredible. We toured Eastern Europe and Russia with Carnifex immediately after the release and we were overwhelmed at how much the kids over there dig it. We had circle pits starting before we played the first note in Moscow. Can’t wait to get out there again!
Can you tell us something about the EP no one knows?
Originally our 2 EPs were meant to be a full album, but our producer Justin Hill (Sikth, Heart Of A Coward) told us to release it as 2 EPs… “as a brand new band you don’t wanna shoot your load too soon and then not get laid for another 2 years” he said. Made sense at the time. We have a new album coming out in the next few months, so we are definitely ready to “shoot our load”!
How pumped are you for your gig with Blessed The Fall?
We’ve not played a home town show in a LONG time, so we are so pumped. Rescue Rooms is a sweaty, intimate venue, so we couldn’t be more excited. Our shows our always a very intense punch in the face, so expect us to bring our A-game.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Probably Architects because in my opinion they are the hottest UK band around at the moment. They are untouchable, and I think our styles would complement each other very well.
What was the first gig you attended?
Fear Factory, 2001 at Rock City, Nottingham. What a show! Every hitnof that kick drum pierced right through me! Years later we got to support them on that same stage, so that was one of my favourite shows we’ve played. Demanufacture was a big influence on my guitar playing when I was a kid, so when we were backstage and Burton came up and introduced himself to us, it was hard to not be a toys fan girl. “Hey man, how’s it going? My name is Burton.” I was like “errr yeah dude. I know who you fucking are!”
What was your favourite part of making the video?
You know what? I’m gonna go ahead and say it. Making music videos sucks! You have to stand there and basically mime song to your music like you’re Beyoncé, and pretend to have a good time. Over. And. Over. And. Over. And again. Like 50 times. Whilst the camera guy takes shot from loads of different angles. It sucks huge sweaty donkey balls. To get us through video shoots we normally drink. A lot. At one point I had to run off the set and be sick because I already hungover anyway. Making music videos sucks. It’s fun watching the end result though. Plus, Loki Films are the coolest dudes so they try to make it as bearable as humanly possible by funny, all-round awesome people.
