We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about the upcoming album, upcoming tour and more!
How pumped are you for the release of You’re Not You Anymore?
Extremely. I think it’s the best Counterparts record to date and honestly, so does a lot of other people. Very excited for the release.
Can you tell us anything about the album no one knows?
Almost all of the songs had working titles related to Magic the Gathering. Servo, Jeskai, Elf Madness, etc.
How has the release of Swim Beneath My Skin been?
It’s been awesome, great reception. I think that song will go over very well live and I’m stoked to finally throw in more new songs.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
The 1975 because they are the best band of all time.
So you’re currently on tour in Canada, how well has this gone so far?
The tour actually starts tomorrow, but I have 0 doubt that it’s going to be sick. We’re already friends with everyone on the tour so even if 0 people show up every night it’s still going to be fun as hell.
Is there any venue you are still looking forward to playing?
Looking forward to headlining Opera House in Toronto for the first time. We’ve only played there once supporting Misery Signals on the Of Malice tour a few years back. I’m a little worried, it’s a big room… but we normally smash Mod Club every time we play there so I’m hoping we get a few more people than that and it’ll look just as good even if it doesn’t sell out.
What was your favourite moment while recording the new album?
When it was done and I didn’t have to write lyrics for 12 hours a day.
What were your first gigs you ever attended as a child?
My first big show I remember going to was The Used, Underoath and Alexisonfire 12 years ago this very day at Arrow Hall in Toronto. Such a stacked lineup. Shit was psycho.
