Samoans stream new song ‘Future Ghost’

Wales’ Samoans will be releasing their second album Laika via their own label Apres Vous Records on 29th September and they’ve just revealed a second track from the album – the hard-hitting Future Ghost. Samoans released their debut album Rescue in 2014 to critical acclaim and toured extensively for two years playing with the likes of No Devotion and Kids in Glass Houses and recording a BBC Radio 1 session at Maida Vale. The album was also nominated for the coveted Welsh Music Prize.

Dan Barnett (Vocals/guitar/piano) muses Future Ghost:

‘For me, this is where the album starts to get really interesting. Future Ghost was the first song written for the album. The lyrics were written during the Rescue sessions but I never quite got the music right until much later. I was starting to play more piano and writing on a different instrument opened up a whole new pool of ideas. I wanted to do something that sounded like Nine Inch Nails meets Oceansize. I think we got it.’

Much of Laika follows a Sci Fi theme, being heavily inspired by the work of renowned Sci Fi writer Philip K. Dick. Laika’s theme developed around the human relationship with space and tales of a dystopian future that reflect who we are and where we’re going as a species. Other influences on the band have come from far and wide in the likes of Radiohead, the aforementioned Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Manic Street Preachers and Mogwai, making the record a beautifully diverse wonder of an album.
